my dad has got me a matsui dvd 120 for christmas and need to know if it can be region hacked so i can import american dvds

Try pressing, STOP, EJECT & SKIP together on the Machine not the handset for a couple of secs.

Then select in the menu

if you press menu 5 then open/close the n 9 then press mute
