Page 1 of Region hack required for an Alba DVD114 please.

Richard,I have heard that the Alba 114 is region free and can also play MP`3 s even though it doesn`t say it on the box.Maybe you want to try it and let us know?.

Thank you for your reply(much appreciated), one thing I did do since posting my request for info` on hacking a DVD114 i`d keyed in 3,3,0,8,8 prior to trying out a R1 DVD, anyway I was pleased to find that the R1 DVD worked straight away, but I am not certain whether or not the player was region free anyway. From what you`ve said it probably is region free out of the box. Yes, Once i`ve managed to put some MP3 onto a cd-r i`ll reply to your query. I`d be very pleased to hear that it`s able to play MP3 as well considering it`s not an expensive unit. (currently 99.99 at Safeway or 149.99 with 40 DVD`s).

Can confirm, yes, this model does appear to be region free. Whether or not there are different versions of this particular model I honestly don`t know but the one that i`d bought from Safeway does appear to be region free. (Safeway are selling these for 99.99).

I bought the same model from Safeway, but I got some DVD`s from China (cheap) the other week, but they don`t work on the 114, tried them on a friends hacked DVD player (not the same make) and they work fine.
Any ideas ????

I have the 114 & tried the hack & assumed it didnt work as the reg1 disk played but with double type vision screen. Does this mean it was multi region but not good at it? LOL or that I havent carried the hack out correctly or the disk is dodgy which I doubt but have yet to test it elsewhere. Has anyone else had a problem with the hack?
When I press the numbers should I see anything on the screen?

Your player is multi-region - if it wasn`t, it would reject the disc with a "wrong region" error message.

It`s your TV that`s the problem. The "double vision" effect means that your TV can`t handle a 60Hz video signal, which the player outputs when it`s playing NTSC discs (R1 American discs are NTSC). The only solution is to buy a more modern TV, or just stick to PAL (Euro and Aussie) discs.

Spot on! The TV is in need of being updated & will be very soon. Thanks v much & nice to know its multi, though now as the other person said I dont know whether its the hack that did it or it was anyway. Gut feeling it might have been anyway it seems.
