Getting frustrated trying to hack Samsung M105

zxcvbnm (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 12th June 2002, 12:51

I have tried numerous hacks from different sources for my Samsung M105 and still cannot seem to get any to work. I am following the right procedures but am not getting the region code displayed after entering the relevant hack and therefore cannot change it. Can anyone give me a hand with this?

some firmware is simply not hackable .. you need either a new firmware chip , a modchip or rent and upgrade tool

But surely if it was sold as multi-regional player by a respectable electrical store there should be an easier way. Or am I being a bit naive?

Do you know what firmware your 105 has ?
I had no problems hacking mine.
Just took the lid off of mine and believe the firmware is 5.02 (unless i`m looking at the wrong chip.)

Gary.

I bought the Samsung M105 yesterday, and had some problems with the region unlock, and then followed quite a few links and eventually found this.

It is long winded, and I will summarise the UK solution below it, to help other non-techies like me!!!

Press REPEAT on your remote control (that`s REPEAT, not REPEAT A-B!) followed by a five-digit sequence which corresponds to the currently set region, as follows:

R1 - 29334 (DVD-x09 and clones only)
R2 - 38767 (If you have a DVD-M series player, e.g DVD-M105, with firmware 5.02Ee, use 57538 instead)
R3 - 56732
R4 - 76884
R5 - 53814
R6 - 24462

So, supposing your player is currently set to R4, press REPEAT-7-6-8-8-4. If it`s R1, press REPEAT-2-9-3-3-4. And so on.

If you`ve done this correctly, 0x will appear at the top left of the screen where x is the currently set region. You can change this to a region of your choice by pressing the appropriate digit on your remote control. For example, if you want to change it to region 6, press 6.

Alternatively, you can set an "auto-region" mode which determines the correct region automatically (even for RCE discs) by pressing 9.

To store the newly-set region, press OPEN/CLOSE or EJECT (either on your remote or on the player itself) to open the tray - you must do this before 0x disappears from the screen. When the tray is open, wait at least 15 seconds, then press DVD POWER (may be called POWER, or STANDBY) on the remote to close the tray and put the player into Standby mode.

The next time you turn the player on, it will be set to the region you selected (or to "auto-region" mode, if you selected "region 9").

Put simply....

press Repeat.
type 38767
02 SHOULD appear, top left corner of screen....(try it and check it happens before trying the rest, since if it does not happen, the rest is useless)

The following must be done BEFORE the 02 disappears off screen.

I would recommend pressing 9 now, to create a region free player.
Press Open/Close on remote once.
Press Power Off, (the top-left button on remote, red on mine)
Wait 15 seconds or longer, turn on player and try a non-region 2 dvd.

This did work for me, but the difference i noticed, (and hence my longwinded first post), was the addition of the pressing of the 9 digit, AFTER the 5 digit code entry.

This step is not listed, (or sorry, i did not notice it in my haste last night), and therefore, i could not hack the player.

Forgive me for the established users, who may be fed-up of newbies asking for this one, but it is a pain, if the 9, or similiar is not entered.

thanks for your time, and good luck.
