Anyone know of any decent mobile phone deals going?
I`m currently on Cellnet/O2, on the Pay in Advance thing, which is due for renewal end of June - can get the year`s line rental with 75 minutes alltime for £89.
However, reception isn`t brill in my house, so, having tested all 4 networks, it looks like Vodafone is the best (Tmob seems to be marginally better than O2, and Orange the worst). Would quite like to transfer, partially to get a decent new phone (I have to carry it switched on for support 24/7, so small and robust with LOUD sms bleep and decent vibra is the order of the day - was considering a Nokia 6510 or 8310, though not played with either), and partially to get better reception.
Unfortunately, I also need to keep my number.
Any ideas, all? (either on phone or deal!)

RE: Anyone know of any decent mobile phone deals going?
With si many deals out there mate it`d be silly of me to start recommending them as you will no doubt want a tarriff to suit you best.
However, the Nokia 8310 is a top class little handset indeed, my girlfriend got one with Orange just over a month ago and all those horrid little problems people had with the 8210 are now completely ironed out.
Its got everything you want like loud sms alert, awesome vibro (that frightens the life out of me when it skips across the table!), amazing battery life (around 4-5 days on one charge), storage for 150 text messages, 500 names and numbers, wap for email on the move, a built in FM radio(just plug in the supplied stereo earphones and away you go - cuts out when a call comes in, you can talk via the built in mic on the earphones, then it fades the music back in when you`ve finished. Nice touch!).
Plus she dropped it on a night on the sauce into a huge puddle. Thinking the worst i told her to shove it in the airing cupboard with the front and rear covers taken off. 24 hours later, voila! Phone in perfect working order, and dry!
You can get it free on many talkplans from all the big companies so its just a case of the talk plan. All you need do is tell the you`re upgrading and you can keep the number too.
Hope this helps mate,
Westy

Check out www.themobilerepublic.com.
By the way I don`t work for them.

Thanks both - just wondering if there were any 3 month line rental free type things going anyone had seen. Only ones I`ve seen offered have insisted on a new number, and as my number is on the business card....
Mobilerepublic seems one of the better sites, think I`ll just keep trawling....

Have you seen the battery`s you can get for the 8310 (and a few other phones) that allow you to put two sim cards into the phone? You could have your current sim card turned into a Pay as you Talk and then buy a new contract with new number (you sometimes get better deals when you start a new contract). You can then have the benefits of a new contract with free minutes and keep you same number! I don`t know much about these battery`s though, I think there about £50 and I`m not sure if you can recieve calls to both sims at once! I think you can but I know you have to switch the phone off and then on again if you want to make a call from the other sim. Something to look into.

Ross,
The dual sim packs only allow you to have one sim card in operation at a time. You`re idea is sound however, as changing to a new number whilst retaining an old one means you can make calls on the new number and recieve on another without having to play with the business card! :-)
I`ve got a triple sim holder for my 6310, and that has a switch so you can change sims `on the fly`. The dual sims you have to switch off and on again.

Yeah, I looked into that, too - they can be quite cheap, but as I`m looking to move networks because the coverage is a bit ropey here, I`d prefer to be receiving (which I do most of) on the better signal. Ah well, I think I`ll stick with O2 and get the cheap line rental, and pay a bit for a decent upgrade phone.

Small print again - can`t transfer an existing number on the special offers! Gah!
