Absolutely shocking state of affairs and treatment of Lineker by the Beeb. So sad the main news is now what he's said instead of the actual situation he's talking about. Great to see the other pundits seem to be coming out in support of him too. Wonder who will host it - will they be 'tainted' by it? If anyone has earned the right to comment on it I think Lineker has.

it is an odd situation, ppl showing examples where Alan Sugar has criticised Govt, but that was OK, I guess he didn't compare them to Nazis?
Nice that Ian Wright is showing support, and as others have said, the fact that the Lineker thing was number 1 most read on BBC's site, but what he was talking about was further down says a lot :(
You could understand them being upset if he had said it live on Match of the Day, but his own personal twitter account, rather than a MotD should be fine.
BUT, having said that, Disney parted ways with Gina Carano after repeated stupid tweets and wrote her out of Mandalorian.
I could understand my boss having a word with me if on linked in I posted something bad, since it shows who i work for etc, but still shouldn't be seen as a view of the company, but twitter, facebook etc is ok?

I do think there's a difference too - and he is totally right in what he said. I also think that, although he works for the BBC, everyone knows that he is on MOTD and a 'sports' pundit. Maybe someone could make a case that if a newsreader said certain things that some could think they're speaking 'on behalf of' the beeb. I really can't see anyone reading a Gary Lineker tweet and thinking the same..??...

Massively shot themselves in the foot giving this government it's wet dream of a BBC with a ruined reputation.
The boss gets away with being a Tory donor and easing Johnson into an £800,000 loan but correctly pointing out a parallel to 1930s Germany gets you the sack.
