Musk wants to verify and attribute all accounts to a person.
Okay bye bye bots but also bye bye to any political activists who's safety will be at risk. Bye bye to accounts like The Secret Barrister tweeting about the law in this country and the woeful state of the system.
Bye bye to parody accounts. Specifically one in the States where Devin Nunez has been trying to sue his cow since forever.
Hello back to Trump, hate filled Trumpers and any amount of hate filled disinformation and propaganda from all extremists thanks to a naïve view of free speech.
Am I being too pessimistic or will Musk, despite being a bit of a nutter, run a decent service much like he's turning out some half decent leccy cars.?

I really don't know. It's coming at a time when governments in the US/UK/EU are planning to or already instigating plans to make social media companies more responsible for things on their platform.
I think I saw someone work out that Musk had paid the equivalent of $234 per active user to acquire the company. I don't think he will make that back for a long while.
Also, who would advertise in a cesspit if he really did let it become a pure free speech platform? He'd need a subscription model, and who would pay for troll pile ons.

Most likely suggestion I've heard is it will become what I think they call a Freemium model ie: free if you put up with all the crap but pay for better, or personally edited content or extra features.

Remember when all the extremists, 'libertarians', conspiracy theorists and various nut jobs complained about Twitter stopping free speech and they were off to Parler / Gab / Truth, etc.? Well all those platforms have been massive failures. So if Twitter just becomes a cesspit of garbage views and abuse, all the normal people will leave them to get on with it and we'll just have another failed social media site on our hands. I certainly won't hang about and I don't particularly want to hear any more of that orange s*** gibbon if he's allowed back.
