"Does Jada deserve 'special' treatment because of her fame"I just mean that this happens all the time by comedians - usually to Joe Public though.
This thing is part and parcel of having 'comedians' hosting such events and in no way should such things be a surprise.
I know you say referring to Ricky Gervais etc. is missing the point - but I'm not sure it is to be honest. If she'd have taken things in the same spirit as hundreds before her then most people wouldn't have even been aware of the line - and her husband wouldn't have assaulted anybody.

Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais don't poke fun at someone's illness.
The Ricky Gervais post earlier is great as he is just stating near to the knuckle facts.
But yes, Will Smith's reaction does seem a bit delayed, almost as if there was a telepathic "are you going to let him talk about me like that?"

Imagine if he'd have mentioned her boyfriend(s) too - aaaawkward.
Interesting to know if he'd have reacted the same way.

Their marriage did take a roasting earlier in the show
Edit: And it looks like consequences will ensue. I note that the Academy sees Chris Rock wholly as a victim, making no statement at all on the content of the ‘joke’.

Yes, I had seen that. And the one a few weeks back too when Rebel Wilson said his best acting was ignoring all his wife's boyfriends.
I'm still astonished to be honest that he was allowed to stay in the room after what he did. In fact, to be invited on stage to receive an award.
Apparently he was 'asked' to leave, he refused so that was that.

I'm not, it's a live prestige show, and they knew he was up for an award, and sitting in or near the front row. I imagine if they politely asked him to leave and he refused, the scene would be worse.

Sorry I mean if they then got security to remove him, that would be a scene and a half.

I said it was a bad joke but not so the man deserve to get slap so-hard. Plus she was laughing when Will slapped him, Not the place for that. The biggest insult to a comedian is to sit there and not laugh, Will n his nasty wife should of left
when asked to leave.
The final consequence?

Not allowed back for ten years. Looks like Bad Boys 4 might not happen either.
