Proper actor and genuine star who always seemed like a thoroughly charming and decent man, don't think we will see his like again

Always there for most of my life and I don't remember a bad performance.

I saw Guess Who's Coming to Dinner at the cinema when it was released with my parents. I'm imagine it was mum's choice, definitely not a dad film (my dad that is).

I feel a re-watch of In the Heat of the Night coming on. I'm guessing there will be a few shown in tribute and I'll be surprised if that's not one of them.

I am not young enough to know everything.

I'm not sure I've seen any of his films! But in the past I've heard Reginald D Hunter talk about him, and about how he met him once when he was young, and how he had influenced him!

He has that sort of legacy, like Muhammad Ali, where you know who they are, you know their influence, their importance, have seen them interviewed, and talked about, but may not have actually seen them do their day job!

I look forward to catching up on some of his films I've heard about which will no doubt be shown soon.
