Maybe there really is a God...

To be honest, I never considered they might be based in New York.  I always thought they would be based out in the mid West.

I wouldn't read too much into this, I think this will be to counter the numerous law suits they are expecting on the 21st!!

It's very likely they're doing what a lot of self-employed builders do round these parts when they can't pay the bills - declare bankruptcy, register a new address (in this case, Texas), then re-open up another business under a different name, but similar enough to be able to keep using the old branding.

Once they're set up in a 2nd amendment stronghold, the donations will start rolling in again.

I regret you're both probably correct and something like this has been on the cards for some time.
I have no problem with the NRA as an idea but it seems to have become massively corrupt.
Given the current situation once they've resettled most of the membership will fall over themselves to replenish the coffers the milking and bilking will continue.

Maybe they are just going to create the National Semi Automatic Weapon Association, because rifle's just aren't popular with the kids.

And morally. Remember their reaction to Sandy Hook was to put all the blame on video games & rap music, and to suggest that they should have had armed guards in the school.

More guns, that's the ticket.

Where to begin?
Some of the NRA's basic training and advice material is quite good and you need to disassociate it from the political 'If I want a .50BMG I should have one' regardless of sanity or police record.

Most kids first firearm over there will probably be a .22 semi auto rifle for hunting. (Semi auto just refers to the means of getting a round into the chamber)

America is an armed society and you will never solve their problems with firearms by banning them. At the moment the NRA and all it's vocal supporters won't give in on anything as they view it as opening a door to let in far more than agreed and it will never shut.
I think it's referred to as mission creep.

Quite agree and removing the NRA from the equation won't solve that.

And you may well be right about this being a tactical move by the NRA but there must surely be legal ramifications for being so blatantly open about it?

I think he (they) are quite a bit Trumpist about it.
'Where else y'gonna go?'
'What y'gonna do about it?'
