Very much this. And enough of the 'you people'. Now who's stereotyping? Anyone who voted for that piece of trash deserves no sympathy, they need urgent psychiatric help. If you're not against who he is or what he stood for, then by default you're in support of everything he did. And that, frankly, makes you less of a human.

As was mentioned several times: the only type of people who would vote for Trump are billionaires or morons. If you're not sure which one you are, check your wallet.

Fair enough, but I'll still take that one personally.

Well this isn't good

Of the 25,000 National guard troops deployed to protect the US Capitol from psychotic Trump supporters over the inauguration period, over 100 of them have tested positive for Covid-19.

May or may not have had something to do with them bivouacing first in the Capitol halls, then in the parking garage with hardly the room to distance.

Well, sadly, no, and it's actually at the forefront of my mind when I think about the type of person who would still support that wife-abusing rapist. I try and try to get my head around what positives could possibly come from giving that person another 4 years in the most powerful seat in the Western World and always come up dry. It can't be ignorance alone. His deeds & misdeeds, his ignorance & apathy, his blatant racism & white supremacist fascism are laid bare for the world to see.

The only reason i can muster is that these people are either, as I mentioned, already incredibly wealthy and want more (which he's already handed them in that despicable tax cut), or because keeping him power would make good people suffer & die, as long as they were okay.

I can't have sympathy for those people, cult or no cult.

Your prerogative, but I guess you're also on board with all the suggestions coming out about no-fly lists, banning of all social media, silencing of Republican politicians and truth & reconciliation exercises?

Truth & reconciliation, ffs...

And that 74m people who you seem to genuinely believe are both racist for supporting Trump but also will drift back to the Republicans?  That's still more people than the entire population of the United Kingdom, and the Democrats are seemingly looking to destroy the Republicans in the same way that New Labour thought they were going to post-1997.  That being the case, where do you think even the moderate Republican supporters will end up?

This is not going to unite the US and I genuinely worry about where this is going to lead.  I guess I must be the only one though as no one else here seems to agree...

I share your worry.
At the moment the USA, collectively, looked over the edge of the cliff and enough of them took a step back but for the next two years there will still be a lot of pushing from the back of the crowd.
We have to hope that Biden and Harris can persuade enough of them to at least stand still so the whole country doesn't go over.

Frankly, they don't need to lift a finger. The Republicans signed their own death warrant the second they allowed Cousin It to 'lead' their party. It allowed so much hate & division not to grow from nothing, but to be free to rear its ugly head, which has been there since the country was formed ('stolen by genocide'?).

Depends on the person. I would agree with any of those limitations being placed on anyone, regardless of political affiliation, Proud Boy or militant Antifa, if that person presents a clear & present danger by their words or deeds. A blanket ban 'just in case' would be the start of a very slippery slope towards a more dangerous ostracization than even Trump managed by trying to build that bloody wall.

In the light of day I will humbly concede that not all Republicans had naught but malice aforethought when they voted for that... person. But I honestly cannot see how any moderate, clear-thinking person could possibly bring themselves to sentence the country to 4 more years of hell, purely because they'd rather have that instead of having to (shudder) vote Democrat.

That's the real challenge. It's going to be hard enough trying to get them to wear masks for a couple of months.

Also tricky when the majority party in one of the largest gun-owning states adopts a Qanon slogan.

You forget that US politics is traditionally far more partisan than ours, although we seem to be in a real rush to catch up...
