"There's no way I'm going shopping on the high street right now. Not because of the virus, I couldn't give a monkeys about that. No it's because of the unique Russian style shopping experience you have to endure. Stand here, go that way, wait, queue here. Wait. Follow the lines...
Nuts to that. I think many feel the same way too."
If retailers haven't taken the opportunity to ramp up on-line operations, then they're fools...

A lot of retailers can't do this, big ones with a presence already can, but there is a whole collection of them that need footfall to make a living. There are a lot of things people just don't tend to buy online as well.
Whilst it was closed, I bought things I would have bought in town from Amazon and eBay, because the town was closed. There is no way any of these retailers would have any hope of setting up an e-commerce site and get any sort of traffic to run it or even deliver it without any delivery infrastructure.
I'm not saying this is a good or a bad thing, and you can easily argue that people not buying clothes they don't really need and all the other things places like Primark sell that they'd never buy unless they walked past it because the design of the store makes them walk past it, but retail doesn't just magically all move online. A lot of it vanishes.

Not sure that's right, locally we have newsagents now doing home deliveries. We have restaurants offering takeaway meals, we have local butchers doing delivery. The opportunity is there.

You may be right that not all retailers can do this, but they will need to as I think the workplace and retail sector will have to adjust to the new normal...

Well, I know it sounds bad but to be fair he's an extremely hard working bloke. H'e often out at 5:30 in the morning and not back until late. Sometimes he stays out on the road for days. I can't entirely blame them for feeling this way.

I don't know what retail is like where you are, but there are people here on a seaside town who none of this would work for. And there are people here running food places who are doing that, but other people who cannot do that because they are extremely high risk of dying if they caught covid 19.

And of course there is the thought that when it comes to the customer side, the most vulnerable to this disease are those probably least likely to be hooked into the world via smartphone. They need the face to face, or failing that mask to mask to connect to the world.

A new word for us all during this Covid 19 situation, and that is WHACK A MOLE. You could not make this up, but maybe they can
In the event of a spike/hot spot, such as LEICESTER city, the whack a mole strategy is now in place, it was mentioned in parliament today, just like the old fairground game if a mole pops up (a covid 19 spike in one area) then hit it hard with a local lockdown....

Apparently a week later than when the government knew there was a spike? Does this sound familiar?

We are heading to Scotland to visit our relatives this month, not been up there for some time. The border is now open but the toilets are shut. Got my shopping outfit ready if I decide to nip in for some amber nectar or need to go behind the bushes for a nature call. (PS..this is the first time you have seen my face )
