Unfortunately my job is infection control in the NHS and I've already dealt with vehicles that have carried confirmed and suspected cases, and it is far more serious than people believe. They have been splurging money on PPE for frontline staff which as you know isn't flush with excess cash. This version is nearer SARS or MERS and yes it does hit those with underlying health issues more easily but the result of the virus is spread across all including the those fit and healthy who aren't by any means less likely to get it just as bad. The thing that appears to be killing even the healthy is the pneumonia that is developing afterwards and the only chance of clearing that in a lot of cases is antibiotics administered intravenously to stop bacteria taking over and ventilation.
It is certainly not on a level with seasonal or swine flu.

I'm not one of those 'Who needs experts' types so I stand corrected.
Difficult to know what to do on a personal level other than be aware a cold may not be a cold. I carry an small anti-bacterial handwash in the car but I gather they're not even as effective as soap and water in this case.

Not airborne but transferred by surface contact?

The hardest thing is making people aware that they need to keep hands clean and don't touch your face with unwashed hands. Stop "snotting" everywhere when you sneeze too.
Sounds stupid but the hardest part will be convincing those that think it is only a sniffle to actually take it seriously and their actions, or should that be inaction, could contribute to it spreading further and putting their elderly or very young family and friends at risk. Hopefully it will disappear as quickly as SARS did.

And employers demanding they come into work. Or zero hours contracts meaning they can't afford not to come into work. :o

Also self employed like myself, where you do not get paid if you do not turn up. Only had one day paid holiday in 20 years, as they made the mistake and paid me.

For some reason, employers will not let Engineers work from home with the paperwork, as they think they are not to be trusted.

You would think we sneak off during working hours to the cinema or something

Wish i could work from home. The Ambulance Service aren't that keen on people being off either and it may prove to be difficult to keep vehicles germ free from afar?
