RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

I think boosters are always Pfizer, no matter what you had previously.

Was able to take my mum to have her booster today because I finally got some diesel! My nephew was going to take her - lucky sod recently bought an electric car. Fuel still really hard to come by in South East.

2 hours outside my nearest Tesco last night. Watched the entirety of Ghostbusters on my phone while I waited. Got home closer to 1am than I was expecting. But maybe this is a conversation for another thread.

"And anyway once you have tested Positive on a PCR, you cant do another for 90 days?"

I think it's because they show the presence of the virus long after it's ceased to be affecting you, or is transmittable. The PCR test is very sensitive.

You are most infectios from 3 days prior to showing symptoms, and then for some period after showing symptoms. After that (unless you show no signs of recovery and end up needing to be on a ventilator) you are highly unlikely to pass on the virus.

Whilst there are cases of people becoming re-infected, they are a significant number of months later and extremely rare.

"So am I worried... not for me, or the wife and kids, but what about elderly relatives, or those with underlying health conditions?"

If they are double jabbed, they should be protected against serious infection. Hopefully they'll have a booster soon which will help again.

I'm not saying you should pretend there isn't a pandemic going on (like some people seem to be!) but as long as you all take reasonable precautions, the risk to them should be quite low.

I'm going to see my parents for the first time since the pandemic at the end of this month, and I will make sure there is a buffer of 5 days were I avoid people before I travel, and then take a flow test before I go (if I can find any, I think they were stopping the free ones? I best go order some now as I only have one left). I still wear a mask in the supermarket although that's more for other people's benefit than mine.

thankfully I cannot see that happening here, although I guess it could always be a pre-requisite of employment for new employees?

I think you're right, but it hasn't been as big bang as this action appears to be.  I'm sure I've seen something about a care home gardener being sacked and maybe a care assistant or two but nowhere near those numbers.

Might just be that because it's small numbers and they're all isolated that we're not really noticing whereas if the a large-ish number of St Thomas' medical staff was fired then there would be a different reaction...

I hadn't read it as a legal requirement, but am happy to be corrected.

I can just see this being challenged in the courts, for unfair dismissal etc at some point, and the employers believing they have acted on legal advice?
