What you have to realise about India, and a lot of other countries including China, there are many many people whos births, marriages, and deaths are not registered, because of this the quoted figures will be 'official' figures, they don't/won't count those people who do not exist on official documentation, also many of these countries also have many 'ethnic' groups within who do not have 'official' status, so again they are not counted in any figures.

Its only now that I personally have family who are affected, young people <50, normally fit and healthy, working population, who have worn masks through out, have been vaccinated, yet have still caught it.

I know of people who believed they had hayfever, symptoms similar, only to test positive.

I just try to maintain a distance from everyone... i'm not being anti-social, I don't trust the public, they have no common sense to follow guidelines, add to that hot sunny weather and alcohol, its going to get a lot worse before it gets better, too many conspiracy theorists, blatantly ignoring scientific fact!

Get all of that and this is why the figures of the likes of China and Russia should always have been treat with a pinch of salt.

I completely agree about a large number of the public not having common sense or actually the responsibility to follow guidelines.  I also hold no truck with conspiracy theorists.

I'm the same as you in terms in social distancing, still happy to wear a mask in enclosed spaces, still working from home, etc.

My problem is the blatant double standards we've seen over the month or so...

So, just got sms test result back for the kid that was sent home from school, it's negative,  was going to phone up today to chase but didn't get round to it, as the info says should hear back in 5 days, and it's on that today. test arrived here quickly, and got back to them quickly, so maybe they're busier as the missus heard back a couple of days after sending hers back, a few weeks ago.

we've had no more notifications from the school, so hopefully the poor kid who got it, didn't pass it on to anyone else.

Michael Andrew, unvaccinated U.S. swimmer, sparks debate as Olympics start

Andrew said he has no plans to be vaccinated in the future.

During Euro 2021 covid jab was discussed and the info didn't seem to be out there, but seems some athletes are getting it, and some aren't, by choice. I know I was out of action for 1 day after 2nd jab, but in my eyes that's a small price to pay, and my boss was fine with that, I guess he's a reasonable human being ;) It didn't affect my chances of not getting a gold in any competition :(

I can see how other athletes would be annoyed at the selfishness of one of their peers not getting vaccinated, but then again, maybe a lot of them think because they are (mostly) young, fit and healthy they don't need to worry, but with the figures so high over there at the moment, and the number of athletes who couldn't go last minute, or have been sent home, seems they should be.

At the top of the top level, perhaps they think being set back 2-3 days (maybe 4-6 in total over two jabs) that makes a difference. As the fittest people on the planet, they are not going to be a high risk of dying you would have thought. Also, they are tested as regularly as healthcare workers (probably more), so the dangers to others is maybe a lot less.

Clearly they are choosing to take this risk, but then considering the circles athletes mix in, well probably don't mix in since covid, they aren't exactly going to be bubbling with a care worker.

It's easy for us to judge and say, well it's just not right, but then this is their job and you can't say the jab has zero effect on their job when we know it can set you back a few days.

Makes perfect sense to me. Covid is an aerosol virus, spread through droplets in the air shed by humans. Why would the lungs and respiratory system be a vector for the virus and not the digestive system? Of course we breathe once every few seconds, I doubt anyone farts with that frequency, so it less of an important factor, but it will be a factor nevertheless.

At least we now know the main vector of transmission amongst football fans.
