Page 1 of Broadband companies to alert you of end of contract

New rules will apply to your broadband company telling you that your fixed contract with them is coming to an end, to give you time to get a new contract with them or another company.

This affects broadband and pay TV customers.

I got caught out with this recently as I was abroad but could still access my email, and got no notification that my reduced price broadband 18 month contract with talktalk was up, and got hit with the standard price which was over a tenner more a month. Quite a big difference!... I should have know the end date but forgot.

I had to get on the phone when back in the UK and get a better deal, but its ended up a mess, as they are going to have to discount the previous high payment, so no idea where I am with it at the moment till the next 2 monthy bills comes in. 

So in theory with the new rules, they should now tell you a month in advance that your contract is nearing its end.

Forgot to say, this comes into effect February 2020.

one slight nuance with the rules are, that they have to tell you that there are better offers/rates available...

however they do not have to offer you these as an existing customer, thy can still use special offers to entice new customers though.

I very recently had very similar experience with Vodafone, been a customer around 15 years, saw an online offer for Vodafone through a third party Carphone Warehouse, 4x the data, and half the price.

Vodafone would match it... i could terminate current contract and take out the new one, but could port the number, as Vodafone don't port their own numbers!

Well in my case with Talktalk, been with them a long time, I think I will end up paying a few quid less than I was before/month. 

Also, maybe because of my tone of voice on the phone with them, regarding them upping the price without telling me, they have sent me a new super router for free. Got it yesterday by courier. No idea why its super though LOL.
