Depends on your poll, eh?

https://www.comresglobal.com/polls/daily-express-voting-intention-and-brexit-poll-january-2019/

Political findings:

  • On the issue of a second referendum, most people want the 2016 Referendum to be respected (53%), compared with three in ten (29%) who disagree and one in five (18%) who don’t know.
  • Conservative and Labour 2017 voters (and Remain and Leave voters) are in equal agreement that Parliament is not emerging from the Brexit process in a good light (83% Con, 84% Lab).
  • 2016 Remain and Leave voters are also in agreement that the Brexit process has shown the current generation of politicians are not up to the job (80% Remain voters, 83% Leave voters).
  • More than seven in ten adults agree the Brexit process has shown that the British political system needs a complete overhaul (72%), with one in ten disagreeing (10%) and two in ten saying they don’t know (18%).
  • Nearly three quarters support having a written Constitution to provide clear legal rules for how Government Ministers, Parliament and civil servants are required to act (72%) with less than one in ten opposing (7%).
  • More than six in ten (62%) support enabling more decisions to be made at local level rather than by Parliament.

I'm sorry, Si, but that poll is immediately disqualified from being truly representitive of a varied cross-section of British society by being conducted and sponsored by the Daily Express. Have you read their headlines lately?

That would be a good point well made, but it's flawed in that no newspaper these days could be described as being truly representative of a varied cross-section of British society.  Not one.

I don't read any newspapers and haven't for almost a couple of decades now.

True, but the Express is an extreme example of almost belligerent right-wing insanity, almost calling their readership to take arms on recent headlines.

I lost all faith in the impartiality on newspapers in general many, many years ago, after a Norman Lamont budget, if I recall. I think it was the Mirror who had a cartoon of Lamont dressed up as Robin Hood, with  a caption reading something like 'he robbed the rich to give to the poor', but virtually every other headline was claiming the exact opposite. That one stuck with me, and i've relied on my own fact-checking ever since

Always a good strategy, but not even that is completely unflawed...

Here is what we should do:

  1. Cancel leaving
  2. Every prominent leave figure gets one full year to negotiate a deal with the EU
  3. The country votes on the deal
  4. If it's accepted we leave, they can even become PM if they want
  5. If it's not accepted the aforementioned figure is banned from all media for the rest of their lives

There has been talk on the radio today of two things.....

Certain remainer MP's tying to deliberately scupper a Brexit deal during this confusion, with intent to remain in the EU, against the wishes of the majority of the UK voters.
(we knew that).

Also it is most likely now, but not certain that the deadline will have to be extended to get some sort of resolution.
(we sort of knew that)

We find out tomorrow.

Which brexit deal are they trying to scupper? The one that leave MPs just voted down en masse or the one that doesn't exist?

Genuinely, if there had been a half decent deal on the table, I suspect the vast majority of remain MPs would have voted it through.
