I still see him as a rich privileged bully with very unremarkable intelligence who just lies and cheats and shouts until he gets his own way, fires anyone who doesn't agree with him, and has only got away with this because he was born rich.

Works up to a point for him.

Calm words from Jay Kuo again
Quote:

Good morning! A “Deep Breath Moment” to start your weekend:

From all the attacks from the White House, the silence from the GOP leadership, the crazy conspiracies from the Trump Campaign legal team, and the stonewalling from the GSA, it’s easy to forget all the things that went very, very well in the last few weeks. So let’s review:

First, we held a gigantic election with record setting turnout without any incident of violence, intimidation, widespread fraud or substantial error. All the issues that have surfaced regard only a few votes here or there, or a few GOP voters in PA trying to vote by mail illegally. We had been preparing for huge disruptions and scary security breaches by foreign states. They never materialized.

Second, the counting, certifications and recounts in key states such as Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Arizona have proceeded without disruption or incident. There have been angry words exchanged, and some drama in certain counties, but the top election officials have done their jobs magnificently and no significant violence occurred. Just a few heated “Proud Boy” punches here and there.

Third, the courts, both federal and state, have held the line. The Trump campaign and its allies have filed 33 post-election lawsuits and are now just 2-31. The two that prevailed affect only a small handful of ballots that were segregated to begin with. Importantly, according to lead counsel for the Democrats:

No court has delayed the counting of a single ballot

No court has thrown out a single already counted ballot

No court has delayed the certification of any result anywhere

This means, practically speaking, that there is no realistic path for the Trump campaign to bring a challenge before the Supreme Court that will affect anywhere near enough votes to overturn the election.

Finally, even Trump lackeys have failed to do anything anywhere to stop the forward motion. In the past 48 hours, the two board of canvassing members in Wayne County backed down and certified the results there (though they lamely want take-backsies now, lol); the MI senate and house leaders affirmed their commitment to the results even after a much publicized meeting with Trump, and the GA governor certified that state’s win for Biden despite being called out by the president and pilloried by his followers.

When I look at all the defenses that held against this assault upon our democratic process, I feel grateful. Election officials, the courts, and even GOP lawmakers placed under national scrutiny have actually done the right thing. This is why I see no reason for us to lose any sleep, and I certainly don’t.

Will we see more madness and shenanigans before this is over? I absolutely believe so, yes. Trump’s temper tantrum is still going, and he deeply fears the end of his presidency and the loss of his immunity from prosecution. But as his losses pile up and as more states certify, the acknowledgement of reality will set in, particularly among GOP leaders and more moderate GOP voters.

I consider this then to be a national cooling off period. Already, I can sense that folks on our side feel a lot less anxious than they did on the night of November 3, or even a week afterward when it was clear Trump would not concede.

So deep breath! Next up is Monday, when MI and PA are set to certify. When that happens, more of the red wall will crumble.

You could actually argue that Trump's refusal to concede and the slow realisation of his base as it all falls away has prevented violence (so far).

Let's hope that continues past Jan 20th.

This is true. Helped mainly by Trump basically giving up on being president and doing nothing since the morning after the Election apart from tweeting the same desperate lies over & over.

And so he should. Once his Presidental protection is gone, all those pending lawsuits are going to come flooding back and put him away for a very long time.

And yet everyone has been banging on about how little work Trump has done as he spends all his time golfing.  Same accusation was levelled at Obama if I recall correctly.

So which is it?  Empty calendar due to Trump giving up or because he's lazy and plays loads of golf?

God, I hate having to defend s*** like this...

I feel a bit like Pacino in Godfather 3:

Mainly by Trump himself & Fox News.

But the sheer amount of time Trump has spent playing Golf at the taxpayer's expense compared to Barack's makes any comparison hypocritical, especially from that bunch.

It's not that he's lazy, it's because he's a despicable human being who is now laid bare as the waste of human skin that he is. Today's golfing trip was instead of a G20 summit on coronavirus. Instead of meeting with other world leaders on how to combat a global epidemic, he played golf.

Then don't. Defending the indefensible in the face of glaring facts to the contrary makes us regard you as less than you are.
