This collection of mega data of what is happening in your household is criminal. Best to avoid smart devices period.

Avoid smart meters, as the data can tell when you are in or out of the house, by use of electricity. Lucky in the UK and Australia we can refuse a smart meter. I have  (its written in law), unlike some other countries. There is no need for a smart meter, when you can send e-mail readings into your provider.

Avoid alexa, or any smart listening device connected to the web, as mega data is stored in the cloud, including conversations.

There is no need for one, when you have a computer or tablet. and dont forget to tape over your web cam.
Also do not use a smart TV with microphone for same reason of recording conversations. Tape over the microphone if you have such a TV.  I have a lot of black tape

Same goes now for all the smart devices in your house, if they are collecting data on usage.

There is no reason for web switched devices unless you are are lazy and cannot get off your fat ****  to switch on a light

MORAL: It can only get worse the more your house is connected to the web. I am wanting a return to the stone age.

Quote:
Instant Heart Rate: HR Monitor, for example, the most popular heart rate app on iOS, sent a user's heart rate to Facebook right after it was recorded in The Wall Street Journal's testing. Flo Period & Ovulation Tracker, which has 25 million active users, tells Facebook when a user is having a period or is intending to get pregnant.

Realtor.com, meanwhile, provides Facebook with the location and price of listings that a user viewed. With Flo in particular, it says it does not send this kind of sensitive data in its privacy policy, but then goes ahead and does so anyway.

Iterestingly a fitness tracking app was showing up secret military bases in remote parts of the USA and around the world. It seemed some servicemen who loved to excercise were wearing these monitoring watches to check their results while running round the prerimeter wire, not realising that the GPS tracking was showing up the perimeter shape of the base and sending this data to the internet ...... What a breach in security! LOL

there was a story about an item an "intimate massager" that's internet enabled, so you/ your partner can operate by phone, it also sends usage data back to the manufacturer!

Could be some awkward questions to answer why you're getting certain adverts all of a sudden ;)

As the Internet of Things expands, the most intimate devices are coming online. Sex toys and beds now connect to the internet. These devices collect, store, and often share our personal data.
It's one thing for Facebook to say you were in the Odeon watching Spider-man (although certain films that could get embarrassing) but depending on who you have as "friends" on facebook could make for some awkward meetings ;)

I use facebook, but only family I have as friends are the missus and her sister, and I have no work-mates as friends, just in case!

I check the site twice a day, I don't think a report button is going to get these deleted any quicker. :)
