When I was looking last year 1st Central had some terrible reviews.

Mine is up on the 9th August so I will be looking around shortly, the other thing I have noticed is a £50 admin fee for cancelling policies mid term!

that's normal, even if you change car, any MTA fee, and change in premium, could be cheaper than cancellation fee!

it's a hassle, but phoning rather than using internet can get you a cheaper premium, as they can manually adjust the figure, depending on their mood, if they want to /can price match, want sales to hit targets etc.

Yes, it seems to be the norm now but never used to be. You rang up to cancel and got a pro-rata return of premiums.
My classic car insurer still does that, dirt cheap as well.

So I got our renewal from morethan at £240 but needed to up the annual mileage to 10k and make me the main driver which made £262.

Went on confusedthemeerkatcompare and Axa came out 2nd from the top at £206.86 with windscreen cover and 14 day courtesy car. The checked quidco and they give £35 cashback for Axa policies. Usually this means when you go through Quidco it's a similar amount more expensive bit nope, same premium so if/when the cashback comes thats a premium of £176.86 - not a bad saving over renewing with morethan. :)

so, house insurance was due, now car insurance due :(

checked comparison site, and interestingly, cheapest there was £1 more than my renewal!

found the email from last year, and the premium is actually a few quid less than last year, however, becuase IPT went up in the budget, I'm paying a few quid more than I did last year :(

oh well, at least for that one I don't have to do anything, but I'll phone up anyway to try to get a cheaper loyalty price :)

Loyalty means nothing to insurance companies nowadays.

Phoned up one, and told them they were up £30 this year on renuwal, and I could go elsewhere and get £20 off last years price, and she just said "do that then", so I did.

Last year was the first time in the last 20 when the insurance company I was about to leave actually matched the quote I got. Every other time they have either just said what bandi's did, or offered me a new quote that was more, sometimes even more than their renewal.

Just had the annual hassle of getting insurance again. I was with Admiral last year, who put my premium up by £45. Called them and they immediately (as in suspiciously quickly) agreed to apply a discount of £25. They were also coming out cheapest for the other half, so we did multi-car which saved us about a fiver in the end. Had to pay for it now though rather on the renewal date, which is a bit cheeky (and £350 I wasn't expecting to have to fork out until the end of the month).

My renewal in, Insure (Hastings) £15 more than last year, quick trip to confused.com and More Than quote £26 less than last year, so went with them.

It irks me when you ring up to cancel and they offer to see if they can match or beat the quote, it's like they are saying, "Oh sorry we tried to screw you over, give us another chance to be a tiny bit sorry so we can do the same next year to you."

wow, result with the car insurance, they emailed me saying I was a valued customer of x years, renewal was due, but it had gone up from last year. emailed them saying it's gone up, and price comparison came up with quote same quality cover for less, and they've gone cheaper than the best quote I got :) Shame you have to jump through hoops though :(
