Nope, mighta been a Creda but no chance it was a Candy as Hotpoint/Creda were same units, Hoover/Candy were their brands.

Asked the major user of the kitchen appliances... Turns out we had a Tricity first, then a Hotpoint, and then a Candy, and there may have been another one in there somewhere before we got the LG.

It`s quietened down a tad since the last couple of nights. I think it`s trying to lull us into a false sense of security.

Tricity became Tricity Bendix, part of the Electrolux group who also own Zanussi and Bauchnecht (sp?) and now that you bring them up, another good manufacturer. The Tricity brand tended to be almost identical units to the other names in the group with very minor alterations or ommissions but with a good chunk of the price removed making them better value.
Zanussi also made innovative products by being the first to introduce a shower type Washing machine (the "Jetsystem") which gave fantastic results and a cross between Carbon and some kind of plastic called Carboran... it was waterprrof llike plastic, slightly flexible, reasonably cheap to manufacture, had brilliant sound deadening properties and was immensly strong. So much so that approximately 21 years after I was given a keyring with a square of it on I still have it.

Hotpoint was Hotpoint, Creda, Canon, Belling and can`t remember their other brands... company got it`s name believe it or not for being the manufacturer of the first iron to get hot right to it`s tip therefore giving it a "Hot Point", now part of the Merloni group.

Merloni was Ariston and Indesit and another I can`t remember, now own the Hotpoint group too.

Candy was part of the Hoover group, again apart from the Candy n Hoover brands I can`t remember the rest.

Lol, that was what I thought as soon as I saw the title of the thread lol!

Our fridge is a hotpoint, and its rubbish for reliability.  It works as and when it feels like it, and then intermittently swings between freezing the entire contents of your fridge, and keeping it just above room temperature. It`s been repaired twice and its only about 5 years old.  Wouldn`t recommend it to anyone :(  The only godsend is that we didn`t pay for it! :)

We`ve got a big side-by-side American style LG.
Two years old now, not a problem with it.
Quiet, reliable etc.

No fireworks mate, just best wishes that it continues to do so ;)
They were actually fine (and tbh, Candy kinda set the Refrigeration bar alonside Kelvinator) for years but once we started to hit Frost Free things went downhill, no idea if it was manufacturing standards, quality control or different plant manufacturing them but it definitely happened.

I don`t keep spam in my fridge, but the nudge was a useful reminder. Over a year on and that LG is still wheezing away like a hard working asthmatic. It`s just noise which I`m getting used to, I don`t think there`s anything else wrong with the fridge.

On the other hand, the washing machine died earlier this week. The bearings went. Went on Youtube to see how easy it would be to fix, was utterly daunted. Still, it`s a Bosch that lasted over five years, and recently it`s been seeing a lot of use.

Went and bought another Bosch this week, this time with an 8kg drum so that we`d use it less and hopefully extend its life. Got it from Currys. Then for a laugh went to see what Comet were doing. They didn`t have that exact model, but every Bosch that they had was retailing for £100 more than the same model in Currys, and then they`d stuck a 15% off stock clearance offer on top it.
