Those blink-and-you-miss-them moments

Issac Hunt (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 5th February 2002, 11:20

While watching Raging Bull last night (why IS that a 2-disc set??) I noticed the Coen Brothers regular John Turturro in a non-speaking part (about 20 minutes in, sat at Jake and Joey`s table). So anyone else got any "before they were famous" moments to look out for (like Sigourney Weaver in Annie Hall)

Cheers

PS: I thought I`d already posted this but I couldn`t see it in the list, so apologies if `ve repeated myself!

Look out for a 16-year-old Jimmy Nail in Get Carter. He`s an extra in the background of the pub scene near the start of the film.

I recently re-watched Richard III with Ian McKellen and spotted James Dreyfus (Tom from Gimme, Gimme, Gimme) playing the VERY small role of a soldier/messenger who Ian shouts at a lot before getting on the train towards the end of the film. Actually seems a bit like the sort of role his Tom character would dream of getting!

Simon Pegg from Spaced was in Band of Brothers which was on recently. It certainly was a blink and miss it type scenario!

Or how about the character, `Spider`, from Goodfellas who gets shot in the foot by Pesci, he`s been promoted to playing Chris in The Sopranos.

This a when-they-were-famous one - I managed to keep myself from blinking throughout the whole of the boring and unfunny `Being John Malkovich` to spot Brad Pitt! Harrison Ford had a minor (if speaking part) in `Apocalypse Now` even if Coppola didn`t like showing his head a lot (he always seems to be filmed from the neck down). Samuel L. Jackson manages to have a walk-on-speak-two-words-then-get-blown-the-f--ck-out-of part in both `Goodfellas` and the excellent `True Romance` (in which you can also spot Val Kilmer as Elvis!) And of course Hitchcock made cameos in almost all of his films.
