Using UK tomtom 920 in USA

niteowl (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 10th April 2008, 14:38

Looking for any tips/advice about using my UK purchased tomtom 920T in the USA.

Has anyone tried theirs out there? We`ve got got a 4 hour drive from Atlanta to Nashivlle and are hoping to use the TT920. I`ve played with changing preferences and looking at the USA Maps and planning a route from a to b but not sure how accurate or up to date it is.

Any information would be appreciated.

Cheers

I`ve got the auto updatez setup everytime I plug it into pc to charge it up and update everything via TOMTOM Home. I`m assuming it also updates the maps then. :/

TBH don`t know if that updates any of the USA Maps though. A mate seemed to think you can`t use the ariel to get traffic updates because of different signals being transmitted.

Used my TomTom 520 in Florida at Christmas, wouldn`t have been without it, flipping ace and no problems at all :D

Thanks SonyLover. Hope I get the same success (but got a print out of directions as backup!) :) . Lets hope it manages to pick up a sat signal within a short time. Customer support said it could take as long as 45 mins, depending on where I am in Atlanta. :/

UK tomtom 920 in USA works a treat!

:) Wow.... Very impressed with the TomTom 920. Used it for a 5+ hour drive from airport, would have taken much longer using a map. The TT maps seem to be up to date, even recognised minor and fairly new roads.

I couldn`t get it to give any "local speed warning" on the TT, but just kept going with the flow of traffic and paying attention to speed signs on road.

Made driving in the US very stress free, even in built up areas. Would recommend you use the computerised voice so it`s able to read the road/insterstate names before you approach them.

Won`t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. :)

p.s. Where`s the sun gone then? got back and it`s Freezing....(compared to US)
