Page 1 of Drivers on camera, all day every day?

Further to the recent post about North Somerset council admitting that speed cameras were money makers, a local paper has now come up with this article about how you are being "observed" whilst driving.
This has been happening for a while now, and will soon (if not already) lead to a national network where the Police and "Other Government agencies" will be able to observe "villains" going about their business.
Didn`t expect them to go public just yet, but I suppose that most people were expecting this sooner than later anyway.

APNR has been used by the company that developed it in Leeds for years, and to be honest its no great surprise that a network across the UK has not been in place for sometime now.

I personally have no problem with my movements being recorded as they would be falling asleep sample being school run, home, shops, school run, kfc, chippy :p etc etc

We have two speed averaging camera`s on the M5 between Cullompton & Exeter due to roadworks on the south bound carriageway.

There are a number of cameras spaced 100 - 300 yards apart on both carriageways on very high poles on the same stretch & for two miles either side of the road works.

Between North Devon Link Road & Chelston\Wellington junction there are a number of similarily placed poles about 6 or 7 foot high (half the height) on the M5.

Today I observed a camera while on the North Devon Link Road sited on the main road but covering the "old" road running parallel to it.

Just how many camera`s do you need?

Just been to British Columbia in Canada. Drove abou 1500 miles in total. We saw one traffic light camera.

Now I am 100% in favour of these.
The amount of blatant red light violations I see every single day is horrendous.
Aberdeen drivers treat the red as come sort of "stop, if you want" signal.
We don`t have one single traffic light camera up here, they seem to be an English town/city thing.

The Canadian authorities could make a fortune on speed cameras as everyone speeds on the remote highways and their HGVs aren`t restricted like ours. However, I think they had a vote and the public don`t want them.

Driving along the main road into Weston today, just off of the motorway interchange, when noticed an unmarked transit parked on the side of the road with various windows in the back doors. First thought was speed camera, but just up the road at the next roundabout were police pulling over various vehicles.
The penny dropped, must have been ANPR in the van, telling the police who to pull over.
I suspect that they chose this weekend as there is a motocross Enduro on the beach this weekend with a load of potential victims amongst the visitors.
The best bit was as leaving Weston on the same road later, in amongst the traffic queue I noticed the police pushing a car to one side. There didn't seem to be anyone else (i.e. the driver) who I assumed had worked out what was happening and dumped the car in the queue and legged it .
They had a similar system at the Fairford RIAT airshow this year, where you're stuck in nose to tail slow traffic, turn the corner to be met by a van with (I suspect) APNR and a sign next to it saying road tax check point and no way to get out of it!

I took THO to hospital today & after I dropped her off home again went into work.

Leaving Exeter heading northbound I was caught up in a rolling roadblock for 15 mins until a silver vehicle with a fourth police car right behind it shot up the hard shoulder. All the police cars bar one shot off, to maintain the roadblock for another 5 or so mins.

Never saw what happened to any of the cars, they were all off the road by Collumpton, A361 & Wellington junctions.

Bloody hell, driving around Weston Saturday, spotted the unmarked camera van again and the car tax dodger spotter :o
It would be interesting to know how well they do.
