Extended warranty - covered or up the proverbial creek?

andyrh68 (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 9th December 2001, 21:32

A friend of mine has just called me, frantic for some advice on the extended warranty on his TV. The fool has managed to spill a bottle of beer down the back - luckily it wasn`t on, so nothing went bang. Will he be covered under `accidental damage` or will this be deemed as `damage or breakdown due to negligence, abuse, or misuse.`

Sorry about that last comment , couldn`t resist. The only advice I can offer is: if he comes round over Christmas for a drink, don`t let him stand near any electrical equipment.

Have you tried phoning the insurance company?

It really depends upon what`s covered in the extended warranty. Your mate may also be covered in his normal contents insurance, assuming he added "accidental damage" to his policy.

Accidents happen, Rupert, no need for caustic, inflamatory comments mate ;-)
