There are no truly effective copy protection methods for audio CDs, free or otherwise. If you don`t want an audio CD to be copied, lock it in a safe and swallow the key :-)

On the other hand, there are lots of copy protection methods for CD-ROMs, but the free ones (such as FREELOCK - http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Code/6061/) are generally weak and very limited in scope. The others have to be paid for (probably on a royalty basis). If you go to GameCopyWorld at http://www.gamecopyworld.com you`ll find a list of the various protection systems and what they do.

Personally, I think copy protection is a waste of time. No protection system will foil determined pirates for long, and they are often annoying to ordinary users (many people like to make backups of software they`ve bought, and don`t take kindly to being prevented from doing this). I think you`ll just have to accept that once you`ve released your wares to the public, they *will* be copied to some extent. If you can`t accept this, then don`t publish it :-)
