Digital Camera - Good place to purchase one online (and last chance for an opinion!)

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Monday, 20th November 2006, 22:33

I`ve eventually decided to purchase my parents (i.e. Mam & Dad) a digital camera and have decided to go for the Sony T30. I was stuck between this and the T10/T7 but the larger screen won over the T10 and the T7 doesn`t get very good reviews even though it looks ultra portable!

Anyway, could someone recommend a reliable online seller for the T30? I`ve seen it for £15 cheaper then what Amazon is selling it for but I`ve never heard of the website before so not overly confident on buying from it!

Any help would be great.

Cheers
Ross

You can try pixmania here. I have ordered from them on several occasions most recently a 7mb Casio exilim. Have a look, they may be better on this occasion (or not).

Good luck

Cheapest I could find is £229.11 at savastore.com aka watford electronics - I`d order from them without concern:

Looks like you`ll have a two weeks wait on delivery if you order now.

Don`t forget the T30 & all the internal zoom cameras will never give as good a picture as a camera with the zoom external. I had one of the internal zoom cameras & a problem I had was I found on many shots I had partly covered the lens with my left hand whilst trying to hold it comfortably. Good snaps smart camera but not the best for pictures for the money by far.

I`ve used pixmania a few times and they are always much cheaper than uk retailers, if you search for reviews though you get lots of people moaning because they are continental models and the chargers come with a 2 pin plug.

I would rather pay 50p for a 2 pin adapter and save over £200 buying from them, you still get english instruction manual and delivery is next day by dhl. You can also pay a small premium for extra guarantee so that if it goes faulty within the first 12 months they will give you store credit to the original purchase price instead of repairing it.

One thing though, three of my friends and an uncle are proffesional photographers and all 3 say Sony cameras are junk, they apeal to people because they are small and have a Sony badge on them. They all highly recommend Fuji so that is what I have always bought and been very impressed. They say the Fujinon lense is the best you can get and the CCD is much better quality. My uncle also like Canon`s. Jim always goes on about a comparison he saw in a photography magazine, all the camers were 6 megapixel apart from the fuji which was 3.2, they took the same shots in a studio with all cameras and the fuji came out best in every category. The conclusion was that a good lense and internal components will take a better picture than a high megapixel rating.

Having not used a Sony camera I couldn`t comment.

Another thing is if you have a look on money saving expert or pricerunner there are usually promotional codes for pixmania, think last time we had an additional £30 off.

All the best

Gerald.

Another vote for pixmania here.
Bought 3 digital and 2 video cameras from them.
Top notch service.
Never had a problem with continental plugs being installed on anything bought from them.
As far as I can tell,it`s always been UK stock ( yes,I know they`re a French company ).
Perhaps they have a UK distribution point ?

Unless i`m mistaken pixmania have a warehouse in London also. They do say that they are the European models, although everything i`ve had from them has been supplied with a UK plug and they`ve also thrown in the European plugs and adapters for free. Only had one minor issue with them which they resolved instantly and gave excellent customer service. All in all i`d use them at the drop of a hat.

THO is Japanese and she doesn`t reccomend Sony either - sony is inflated even in Japan!! I`ll find out next month. As per superted i`d go for Fuji, although i`m quite taken by the Casio Exilim.

If you fancy Sony,go for it.
I wouldn`t by anything else made by Sony, but their digital cameras are excellent.
I`m on my third from their cyber-shot range.
Their picture-package software is reasonably good too.

The best software I`ve used has been Kodak`s,but their digital cameras are shockingly bad (IMO).

If we are turning into a recomendation thread then go for Canon or Panasonic. Fuji very good , I have an earlier 2 MP & it will still compete with some of the 6MPs.
