This is one of my many pet hates, I have a habit of asking people where their badges are in a loud voice:-)

We have had this one befor and it got very heated. My point was not a problem disabled parking, but as to why it should be automaticly free when half the the people who use them have cars I could not afford. Also, as you have your own spaces for free could you please use them rather than taking up the paid spots with out paying.

I know I am going to get slated for this view.

For the record, I do not park in disabled spaces even though I could get a badge if I wanted one.

You dont have to have a badge for a lot of disabled spaces. My Sister-in-law is classed being able to park in disabled spaces as she cant walk more than a certain amount of yardage. If you smugly asked her where her disabled badge was, you would probably get a pointy shoe up your jacksie. Its very easy to be judgemental without knowing all the facts.

Anyway, the only time I abuse the system is at christmas when I take my nan into town, park anywhere I like and leave her gassing in a cafe with her bingo mob while I do some shopping. Otherwise, even if its really late and the carpark is empty, i wont park in disabled spaces. I have, in the past, used the old mother and child chestnut if im out with my old dear, but thats more because it embarrases her to death.

I never park in disabled spaces.
It could be 2 in the morning and it could be the only space available,I simply will not use it.

The car park next to where I work is always full and each floor has about 12 disabled spaces. If I get there late and I can`t find a space I`m sorry but I park in them.

I`m with 42% on this

Some of the supposed disabled people I`ve seen have top of the range Merc`s, beamers even range Rovers, hardly suitable for disabled people

When you look at them they are fully abled bodied and can walk unaided which makes you wonder how they got the badge.

They also seem to think they are exempt from paying parking fees. I`ve now noticed that there are signs to warn them they are not exempt in particular P&D sites

I must admit I do park in disabled bays when all the family ones are taken, although I have a 4 inch scratch along the passenger door for my troubles :(

That is just ridiculous. Exactly what `disabled` people wouldnt they suit?

So all disabled people should drive pope mobile style berlingos with wheel chair ramps in the back and mini-cranes behind the passenger seat? If I was unable to walk more than a few hundred yards, I would qualify for a disabled badge, but I would still be able to drive a landrover or a merc.

Disabled people dont all have to be Hawking style with the earning capacity to buy a reliant robin.

Sorry to take your name in vain, but I dare say Wossname qualifies for a blue badge. If his old man wanted to give him a lift out, he could rock up in a gold plated hummer, for all the business is of yours.

XFG probably qualifies too, but I daresay that she isnt `disabled` enough for some people (same as my S-I-L, who, as she can walk a short distance, is liable for abuse from every interfering knobsack in christendom for parking in disabled spaces).

as a rule there are not enough disabled space, in fact only the supermarkets seem to get the balance right :/ we have a badge for our son & my mother in law also has a badge as does my father, neither of them can walk more than 30 metres or so, even less if they are on there own, we drive the mother in law around because she can`t drive, but my dad has a fairly top end citroen, with air con + extra comfy seats etc, ALL of his disability pay goes into the car, you may ask why he chooses to use his disability payment this way, but there would be no point in me answering you because the fact of the matter is that if you had a severely uncomfortable physical ailment but didn`t want to be Housebound then you would want a comfortable & reliable car as well, & you`d be gratefull of the people that respect the disabled parking/allowance system.

after all, we still live in a fairly civilised society don`t we ? :¦

I can only get the the gate on a good day - so qualify, but we haven`t got a car. :)

I just have to contend with bus drivers not letting me on the designed-especially-for-wheelchairs busses because "I`m not trained to do the ramp" (gyac: it`s a flap. They also don`t like mum doing it "Because you`re not insured"!!!) or "I`ve got a buggy on" (gyac: big sign saying wheelchair priority and that buggies must be moved/folded). I usually get into an argument, but it`s very upsetting if I`m already exhausted and not in the mood for c***y drivers.

If your sister-in-law even gets mobility component of DLA then she may as well get the badge for an easier life

neither of them can walk more than 30 metres or so,

How do they get round the supermarket. Most of the supermarkets here are about 30 metres to the door. Then to get to the back it`s about 40/50 metres, then the length is about 60 to 100 metres then back to the tills 40/50 metres & then the 60/100 metres to the door & the 30 metresback to the car. So at best thats 260 metres. What do they do? do they walk or have wheelchairs or go round slowly? Just wondering.
