ToucanSurf = S***

I`ve been with them for no more than 3 weeks. I have CRAP speeds. It`s good for websites, but downloading and using P2P software I am lucky to get 5kB/s where as with BT I would avg at around 100-120.
I sent them an e-mail regarding this, if I needed a booster file or something (I did with BT when I was upgraded to Mbps Broadband). And I have ad no reply (e-mail was sent 2 and a half weeks ago).
Therefore I`m constantly leave my downloads on (outside the fai rusage policy hours - 6PM-11PM).
Yesterdays internet speed was absolutely terrible during those hours, I wasn`t downloading I was just browsing website.

And look what I get this morning...

Dear /////AMG,

We`ve noticed your recent levels of Internet usage have been very high. Toucan has a fair usage policy which endeavours to ensure our broadband service is fast and available to all users at all times. Very high usage by some users can result in slow speeds for our other customers. A copy of our fair usage policy is available at http://www.toucan.com/products/toucansurf/fup.pdf and, specifically, clause 7 outlines the policy on excessive usage.

Very high usage is monitored on a weekly basis. During last week, your usage has been particularly high and therefore we`ll arrange your service so you share bandwidth with other high users. Consequently the speed you will experience during peak periods will be determined by the usage level of other high users. Peak hours are 6pm to 11pm Monday to Sunday and Bank Holidays. Your Internet speed outside peak hours will not be affected.

Tips on reducing your Internet usage:
Turn your Internet connection off when you`re not using it.
Reduce the number of movies and music you download.
Reduce the number of times you share files across the Internet, or reduce the size of the files.

Yours sincerely,
Clare Lambert
Mobile & Internet Team Manager

Unbelievable. >:(

I`ve had that with Homecall previously. Fair usage policy is something like 4-6gb`s which for me isn`t that great as I sometimes work with big files. But this wasn`t an issue that was made clear when signing up to its `Unlimited Broadband` offer originally. When I went over the 6gb they then cut off my connection to practically nothing (Saturdays it just didn`t work); it was like this for 7 days.

ToucanSurf barely sound any better...

Am with AOL - and havent had trouble with them at all. Superfast connection, and no - absolutely no - limits. I have downloaded at least 30 movies in the last month - that would be roughly 20gig of data, and no one ever mails or calls to complain...

Ben, my internet doesn`t even work on the weekends either!

I mean I usually go on the net in mornings until about 5PM, and that's when I download. It`s well out of their restricted hours, but I still can`t get anywhere.

I tried getting out, because they give you a 13 day grace period. Thing is I ordered it December and they connected me on the 26th last month, so it was over my 13 days.
I told them it isn`t fair because its 13 days from your order day.

I`m going to give them a ring right now; my internet speed is insanely slow.

If worse comes to worse, I`ll leave my computer on all day all night for the next couple of days trying to download and hopefully they get fed up and terminate my connection/contract.

An MSN buddy did this to try and get out of his contract with his ISP (not Toucan) when he noticed his speed was s*** *in general*, so he set about repeatedly downloading Linux ISOs - it didn`t work, they`re happy to just leave him in the leper colony and collect his subscription/cancellation fee.

^^ I asked if I downloaded too much, even after warnings and restrictions would they cut me off? The guy was very confused. He said we won`t cut anyone off.
I said, "So I`ll just be very restricted, slower than dial up."
He said yea. :( >:( :(

Their technical department guy was fuucking terrible.
He didn`t have a clue what was going on, he kept saying I was restricted because of the FUP, which I know because of the e-mail!! He said it will affect you outside and inside those hours for the next fuuking 4-5days!!
He also said if you keep your usage low, you`ll get it lifted after those 4-5 days.
I ranted "Of course my usage will be low; my internet speed is lower than dial up!! There is no way in hell I can have a high usage for the next 4-5 days."
And how in the e-mail it says I will only be affected during 6-11PM.

I fuucking hate Toucan. I think I might have to cancel my contract. >:(
Is there anyway I can get out of this? (I`m moving country or something?)

Also who can I complain about/report these guys too? No where in their contract does it state when I`m restricted it will be fore 4-5 days out side the FUP hours.

No more Lost for me... fo ra long time I guess. :(

Oh yea, they claimed I downloaded 1600MB (1.6GB) last week during 6-11PM. Bulls***.

Toucan are a reseller for Tiscali so their service is just as crap as them. Avoid at all costs.

AMG, can`t you just cancel the Direct Debit and f*** them off? They are breaking their side of the contract surely - so you must be allowed to with-hold payment? It`s f***ed up. Must be really frustrating for you....

Do you ever upload? Because they add your uploads onto your total allowance too.

Yup Ben, they breaking their side of their contract, but I`m guessing I was ranting and raving so much they probably want me to suffer some more (hence the 4-5days).

I never upload. For some reason my internet is almost average today.
I have a feeling one of my bastard neighbors was/are stealing my WiFi connection, although no one can access it, except my dad's laptop. I`ll have a go through all the settings again to make sure.

I really wanted to go with Blueyonder because I've heard nothing but good things, it's too bad their broadband isn't offered in my area.
