Car Hire in Spain

niteowl (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 28th July 2005, 12:46

Just came across this company for car hire in Majorca www.DoYouSpain.com as mates are going there for a week. Anyone know anything about them ?
They seem good and have quoted £124 (all inclusive) for 1 week car hire ford focus 5 door a/c equivalent (which can mean anything :) ) or £99.95 for Renault 5 door a/c

thanks. Niteowl

The only thing I would say about hiring cars in spain is to make sure you dont have to pay for the petrol. We go to Spain every year and have used different car rental comps. Some of them give you the car full of petrol but then charge you for it at whatever rate they feel like. It is up to you whether you use the petrol or not but you still have to pay for it. Its just another way to get more cash. My parents had to pay an insurance for the tyres when they last rented at £10 per tyre.

I have used Crown in the past and found them very good on customer service and price.

We always wait until we get there.
There are always plenty of options and you can haggle.
Never been stuck for a car yet.

There`s me thinking it would be cheaper getting it from UK, also I read somewhere to be careful of people trying to sell you timeshare as well as car hair and be prepared for a wait to get your car.

I got a decent car from Holiday Autos for less than that - all inclusive for a week.

www.holidayautos.com

I also had a few accidental bangs in their vehicles and there`s nowt they can do about it -it`s fully insured - nice.

PS - I`m not a bad driver - I just park in dodgy areas!!

Just looked malaga £63 for the week all in!!

Mates were looking for majorca for two drivers. Had a look at holidayautos, they`re charging £137 for economy 5 door a/c - only 3rd Party and extra per day for extra driver, where the other was fully comp and included extra driver for £124. Personally I always use Holiday Autos for States, but thought them expensive for majorca.
Thanks. Niteowl

Used www.doyouspain.com for car hire in Lanzarote last year - no complaints. Cheapest by far, but make sure you do get your booking right first time - their charges for amendments are horrendous (for example, wanted twice as much to extend hire of car by one day as it cost to hire it for the week after we had booked!)

Other company that I have used frequently is carjet - www.carjet.com. Very good on price and excellent service - managed to rip the bottom of the radiator off one of their cars and they were there with a replacement within 30 minutes - free of charge.

Hope this helps

Thanks for info. Passed onto mate, who said both doyouspain and carjet had no cars available (not surprised since they were so cheap for the week), so they`re going take their chances hiring when they get there.

Can`t speak from experience, but check out EasyCar too, one of the EasyJet companies.
