Urban Legend?

jeffthegun (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 30th June 2005, 13:54

Does anyone know whether or not its true that if you put a light bulb, fat end first, into your mouth, you cant get it out again? Snopes has let me down, so I am opening this one to the floor (my girlfriend doesnt believe its true, but wont let me try it...... :/ )

I was changing a bulb in the bathroom this morning and i was sorely tempted to try it out, which is how the conversation started.

Friends sister
heard that you could open wide enough to fit a lightbulb, big end first, inside your mouth but once you got it in there you couldn`t get it out without either breaking it (bad) or dislocating your jaw (very bad).

Naturally she assumed this wasn`t true so tested the theory by unscrewing a lightbulb and trying it out. Unfortunatly for her, what she thought was urban legend was is actually urban fact - you really can`t get a lightbulb out of your mouth after you have put in there. Cue one embarrassing taxi journey to the hospital ("where you you like to go luv?" "eh ouspial!!!") with the taxi driver laughing all the way.

As a post script to this, after about an hour or so the bulb was finally removed by medical professionals and my friend`s little sister was free to go. On walking out of the hospital who should she see? (I swear this is true). The taxi driver who brought her to hospital sitting in A&E looking very embarressed with a lightbulb in his mouth!

heh, very true.

Its human curiosity! Have you see Monkey Trousers (i think its that anyway)? A woman introduces herself to a new member of staff;

`Hi, Im marjorie, I see youve found the photocopyer. But whatever you do, dont press that button there`.

She then walks off and five seconds later you hear a huge explosion and she crosses their name off a list (repeat sketch every 4 minutes for emphasis).

Never understood the attraction myself.
My house has a perfectly good door,so why would I try and go in the window ?
Get my drift ?

Same happened in BB this week. A big red button saying "Do Not Push". All of them hovered over it, ready. Eventually one pushed.
Sounds to me like nicotine withdrawal, wanting to be oral.

I watched the first episode of that Monkey Trousers and thought it was crap.

HOWEVER...

It got better.....and better.......and better....

The sceptical vicar; "And behold the loaf and fishes fed 5000......Oh come on ! "
The swearing chef; "F***ing Raspberry trifle"
The burping antiques expert; "I`d get.....BAAAAARP...£250 for that in my shop...URRP"

Excellent stuff. 8) :D
