Page 1 of Degree in `chav`-ology - Teachers wanted!

I think some of you Master Chavs would be interested in teaching this course...........

A Leeds student is the first in Britain to get a degree in chav culture.

Verity Jennings, 22, wrote a media studies thesis covering the likes of Lotto lout Michael Carroll, reports the Sun.

Her research also examined the `chav-istocracy` that includes Danniella Westbrook and Victoria Beckham.

Verity said "I decided on the topic because it was the buzz word of the moment.

"It was a fascinating subject. I knew nothing about it at the beginning - I`m not a Chav myself."

Verity, of Droitwich, Worcs, gained a 2.1 in her course at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Her thesis was entitled: `Chav, sub-culture or chavaphobia? An empirical and theoretical exploration of chav`.

It declared they were `the new mods, rockers, and punks of the post-war generation`.

unless something more interesting comes along - looks like Chav is here to stay!

It comes from an old english word `Chavalier`.

The Chavaliers were a group of lower class soldiers who fought the roundheads. They were typically looked down on by their betters because they couldnt speak english very well and they spent most of their soldiers wages on jewellery.

Over the years its been shortened until here we are today.

I can`t belive that it comes from the civil war - i just thought some idiot made it up in some slum up north.
