Friday the 13th??? Thursday the 12th more like.....

damn and blast

had someone reverse into me on thursday evening whilst leaving a
shop forecourt....damage didn`t look too bad, but we swapped insurance
details nonetheless.
my insurance representatives instructed me to take
my car (1996 1.6 Masquerade Escort Saloon) to a local repair shop for an
estimate for repair, which i did at 9:30 this morning....only to be told that the
bloody car may now be written off!!

seems like these body repair shops don`t want to carry out repairs anymore and
would rather write off a perfectly roadworthy car. to make matters worse, i had just
had 4 new tyres, two front disks and pads, and two front wishbones fitted in preparation
for our camping holiday during whitweek.....

looks like i`ll now be browsing f*****g autotraders website looking for a replacement
car :(

once again...DAMN and BLAST :(

If it makes you feel any better, our car failed its MOT yesterday (13th) so ive got to go out in a minute to scour local knackers yards for parts, because the cars so f***ing old. Its why im posting on a saturday, because im trying to put it off.....

Im also salvaging tyres, because the bastards at the garage wanted 60 quid for 2, which is about a quarter of what the bastards worth.

I Dont know Karate...but I know Ker-azy!
What im listening to (if youre interested)

If they write it off as uneconomic you can usually buy it back from the insurance company. Might be worth it if you`ve just shelled out a lot on it.

They pay you the write off value (and don`t accept their first offer), you buy it back from them much cheaper and then pay for the repairs privately. Remember to get all your uninsured losses back from the eejit who can`t reverse.

Hi WR

good to see you back :)

yeah..i`ve contemplated buying it back if it is written off, but i`m a bit unsure
as to what number plate i`ll be able to use...will it have to be a "q" plate? i don`t
really want to have to change plates seeing as the current plate carries my little
lads initials!!

just waiting for the insurance people to get back to me now.

I think you keep the same plate. The only problem you might have is insurance and selling the car as insurance companies/garages usually ask if it`s every been written off.

I think you can sometimes persuade them not to `officially` write it off, but not sure.

:) Yeah I`m kinda back. YGM.

It will keep the same registration, but if you ever sell it you may have to declare its a insurance write off (will probably show up on HPI check).

You could always transfer the registration to a new car to keep your lads initials. :D

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.
