Manchester Council stamps out smokers with a £50 fine

Stu UK (Elite) posted this on Friday, 13th May 2005, 00:25

Manchester city Council has started fining people who drop cig butts £50 today. Although a local bylaw has been in place for several years no chewing gum litter louts have been fined yet...... is this another attack on smokers???

mmm chocolate

Yup, they`re all picking on smokers at the moment! ;)

They`ll probably never catch and fine a smoker either. I think its a good idea tho, might make people think twice before dropping their fag butts - find an ashtray!

Good!!!!!!!!

I say pick on smokers until they leave their filthy, selfish habit at home were it belongs.

If you want to slowly kill youselves and your family, fine, do it away from me and my family.

I agree! Smoking is disgusting and inconsiderate.

I don`t think it is a nice habbit, and a lot of smokers are very incosiderate, but it is an addiction and people with addictions need help, not constant criticism.

Ohhhhhhhh!

Sorry all you smokers!

That makes it OK for you to try and kill everyone around you because it`s an addiction.

I would say smokers are getting equal rights with litter louts and chewie dropper. Dropping a ciggy butt is littering and know different to dropping a coke can on the floor. Fine them all.

All the best,

Dr 42%er.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

Totally agree, fine them all!

And fine our Asian cousins too who walk round the streets blowing the snot out of the noses all over the pavement.

Not forgetting all our white cousins who just spit all over the place!

I agree that people should be fined for dropping fag butts and litter, but I don`t think that all smokers should be tarred with the "ignorant" brush. Some smokers are evry considerate of people around them, and don`t smoke while others are eating or drop their fag butts on the street.

Also, you do not have to socialise with smokers or go to smoking estabishments, so complaining about us "killing you" by smoking isn`t really fair.

If smokers stuck to THEIR homes or SMOKING ESTABLISHMENTS, then there would be no complaining from me because I wouldn`t go near either.

BUT THEY DON`T ! ! !

Sorry OP, I seemed to have hijacked your thread.
