DODGY EBAY SELLER

LeeDavies (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 14th April 2005, 13:09

This dodgy ebay seller has sold quite a few copied items in the past and he is still trading! I once bought a dodgy item from him and complained and requested a refund, he threatened me with negative feedback.

Not only did I get a threatening email from him I also received several phishing emails.

Whats that scraping noise? Yup, its the sound of someone grinding their axe....

He seems pretty straight up to me. Can you prove he sent you phishing emails?

I think we should start an `E-bay woes` forum.......

Me? Wind people up? Im offended.....

But in all seriousness, the OP has posted (in big CAPITAL LETTERS) that someone with over a thousand positve feedbacks (and only like 4 negs in the last year) is DODGY. The auction he pointed to is well advertised as a copied off tv compilation tape.

Now im no copyright lawyer, but he makes absolutely no bones about the fact that this isnt a genuine (for want of a better word) product, so as far as I can see he`s just posted this to get back at the seller for threatening to neg him.

Im:

A) Tired of every other thread being "SOMETHING SOMETHING EBAY"

B) Tired of every other post making baseless claims/accusations and people never backing them up.

The item I purchased from the seller was not listed as a copy. He obviously chose to change his descriptions since my dispute with him.

Anyhow since when was it allowed to sell copied VHS items on ebay?

I have the users ip number and the ip number of the phishers email and they are identical, so I do have evidence.

nickthegun if you are tired of Ebay posts I suggest you don`t read them in future, I find your posts a bore and you know what I do? I avoid them, not difficult is it?

Finally the idiot sellers auction has been tugged. He`s had 2 auctions tugged now in the last 3 weeks, suspension shall be imminent. Pity you can`t buy his bootlegs anymore Andy.

Thing is, the sale of any copied material is just plain wrong on eBay. People buying copies are as much in the wrong as those selling it (in your case, it may not have been obvious, mind).

You have a duty of care to the eBay community as a whole to report it - eBay are really cracking down at the moment and do respond to reports submitted by members.

Of course, if you are a genuine fan of a band/TV series/film etc, you really should know what is legitimate and what isn`t....

And who here forces you to read them ?

Sometimes these threads are very helpful, particularly the ones in category A - believe it or not, not everyone here is as clued up as you about dodgy goings-on at eBay, and I think they serve as useful heads up to members of the community, esp. new ones
