Hi I am new to dvd players and i wanted to know what is the best sub £200 multi region player. Also if they can play vcd and CD-R

I`ve just bought the Aiwa 370 and can thoroughly recommend it. The picture and sound quality is v.good, and will happily play vcd and cdr/rw. It is also available is black or silver depending on the rest of your equipment.
Got mine from Comet for £199 including 3 DVDs (Perfect Storm, Friends, and Gossip).

my folks got the philips 701 (silver) fully modded (plays everything) for around the £200 mark, although now you could probably get it cheaper. its a great machine although its missing an s-video connection.
