General Forum
Guess this could/should be posted on the music forum, but what the hell?!
Who`s got tickets for this at Cardiff`s Millenium Stadium a week on Sat?
It`s now sold out, but more tickets may be released shortly, there are 17 acts apparently confirmed to play, but at the moment they`re only naming 12 of `em -
Manic Street Preachers, Badly Drawn Boy, Snow Patrol, Embrace, Eric Clapton, Feeder, Keane, Lemar, Charlotte Church, Craig David, Heather Small, Liberty X
You could say that there`s `something for everyone there`. I don`t usually go in for these large-scale event concerts, prefer to just donate the money, but thought this time I had to.
Why dont these acts just cancel the concert give a large donation each and then people like me might not think they are doing it for their own flagging careers, to be honest all the band aid 20 stuff made me feel sick, and seeing Sharon Osborn on a advert telling us to give money (yes the same Sharon Osborne that we were all told was worth £100,000,000 in the build up to X factor) well no Sharon you give £50,000,000 of your money I am sure you will be able to manage on whats left,to be honest I have had enough of it. >:(

RE: Tsunami Benefit Concert
I do agree with you to an extent Zovirax, especially the Sharon Osbourne bit. I think in some cases its that the artists have got something to promote, rather than doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. Feeder, for example, have got a new album out at the end of this month. So the gig is perfect timing for them. :/
Out of that line-up, is it me or does Charlotte Church stick out like a sore thumb?
Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?
Didn`t think anyone would be naive enough to think that anyone in showbiz does something for nothing? ;)
Manic Street Preachers, Snow Patrol, Embrace, Eric Clapton - Flagging careers???
A couple of the other acts maybe, but not all of them - at least they are trying to entertain people as well as raise money - they should be supported at least.
Whittler 8)
I`m looking forward to going to this. Some bands I`m very keen to see, some not - the variety should be interesting.
OK, it will hardly harm anyones careers, but I have bought a ticket that will contribute to the appeal, and no doubt there will be additional collections on the day. I had already donated money and may not have contributed again so soon without a trigger like this.
And why is there always an assumption made on threads like this that these musicians have NOT made personal donations too ?
RE: Tsunami Benefit Concert
Me and my partner are DYING to go, but I had been laid up all week with tonsilitus, went back to work today and was looking on the BBC website, which told me all the tickets had gone, DAMN IT!
I`m tempted by ebay, but they are going for like £75 a ticket and you know they are not going give the extra to charity. If anyone does have any tickets, PLEASE make contact with me, I need two and I don`t want them for free, I will pay.
RE: Tsunami Benefit Concert
surely the fact that Charlotte Church is going to sing means that it`s an attempt to tell everyone that at least things aren`t all that bad.
or maybe she`ll just be selling the Clark`s pies (and probably eating most of them) which would be a blessing for all.
My collection
I heard that they were trying to find ways to increase capacity - so keep an eye out for updates.
I`m never sure how capacity at these events always seems to be flexible , and extra tickets released after sell-outs have been declared.
RE: Tsunami Benefit Concert
This sounds incredibly cynical and while you may think that the acts wll be gaining from this event you have forgotten all of the support workers who are giving up their time for free. I am a steward at the Stadium and we were asked to volunteer for this event ie work a 12 hour shift for nothing so that the operational costs could be kept to a minimum, maximizing the revenue for the appeal. You would probably say that I am doing it so that I can watch the concert for free but believe me if I wanted to watch it I would rather have paid for a ticket as it is way less than the wages that I will be giving up to steward the event. Having said that I am really looking forward to playing a small part toward making life a little easier for someone else and it will be a privilege to welcome like minded people to Cardiff and I am sure that everyone will have a fantastic time. PS if you are coming wrap up warm!!!!
