Page 1 of Audition - very disappointing........
General Forum
after all the hype etc i sat down and watched it today. i waited...then ...waited...half an hour gone...nothing...an hour gone....nothing....an hour and a half gone (and im thinking s*** theres only 20 mins left, something gotta happen soon)....nothing. then with around 10 mins remaining the so called torture scene happened. oh....was that it?!?!?!
ive seen more savagery on the teletubbies!
We must be on the same viewing schedule, Elephant Stone, cos I watched my copy tonight. I actually thought it was well-crafted, very off-kilter, and (before all the nastiness) highly amusing. On the basis that the film could not possibly be pigeon-holed into any category, any celluloid quirkiness always appeals to me (must be the David Cronenberg fan in me). I totally enjoyed it. Incidentally, what was your picture quality like ?

Take your point about it taking an age to get going, MInd you, I felt that the background stuff was vital, especially from about the 45 minute mark onwards when it goes pleasantly pear-shaped and when all the weird stuff starts kicking in.
I think the build up to the torture scene (the flashbacks, and the drugging) is very well done and had my eyes popping out of my sockets. The actual torture scenes had me writhing around giggling nervously on the sofa (always a good sign that my most basic fears are being hit upon), and the constant switching between current torture and perceived past is excellent.
A unique piece of cinema, and one that will keep me amused for a few more viewings yet, I feel.
Mind you, I`ve gone off petite Japanese women......

This will spoil the film if you haven`t already watched it.
Talk about bizarre, I watched it on Sunday as well. It was really wierd, I thought that the DVD had skipped an hour back when he fell after being drugged. The picture quality on my LG 3350 was perfect as usual, shame about the DD 2.0 but there you go. I got really really confused in the last 20 minutes as to what was real and what wasn`t. The subtitles were a bit of a give away - I`m sure in Japanese it would have been more criptic. Also, you had to think about the subtitles. The translation wasn`t 100%. The bit about "love me only" was confusing as I thought it was a crap translation, but it was literal.
Overall, worth watching just for the little bit at the end, plus it was very tense and you couldn`t take you eyes off it - and it only cost £8.50 ish

fair enough looking back the film was very well made and clever, but i suppose after being dubbed the most `disturbing` film ever i thought it was going to make me s*** my pants! the picture quality was good too although the subtitles were quite amusing.
its always the way though isnt it? when somethings been hyped to buggery, it never quite lives up to it....

Interesting to see that most of you have enjoyed the movie.I have to admit that it`s not to everyone`s taste, but worth seeing none the less.
Japanese films are more prepared to cross the boundaries that the film companies in Hollywood brainwash people into accepting as entertainment.Let`s hope that some film studio does`nt remake it!!!
P.S. I don`t think that i`ll look at another petite japanese woman in the same light as well !!!!
