I know this is a bit off-topic but does anyone know how to make a Nokia On-Digital Box output SVHS to video? According to the menu, it should be possible, but it is `greyed out`. On-Digital were no help.

Can`t be done.The only signal you might be able to get out of an On STB is RGB or crappy composite.
Dunno why the STB you`ve got is teasing you this way, the little minx...

Never seen my Nokia box mention S-Video, but, to my knowledge, you`ve only got a choice of RGB or (nasty) composite.
Apparently other makes of ONdigital boxes do output S-Video (like the Sony, I believe), but ONdigital don`t ship these now (and I doubt you`d be swap).

Mind you, Norman, if you have one of the earlier Nokia models you should have a digital output for connecting to an amp, if you have one - I`m dead jealous if you have !!
Heather`s right, tho` - it`s very unusual for OnDigi to ever swap the box just because you don`t like it, or want the funky new silver Pioneer or Pace box. This is probably down to the fact that you are, in theory at least, hiring the box from them.

Yes I do have the digital audio output - I am looking forward to using it with my DSP when can I afford one. Though I understand that digital TV does not come with digital surround sound yet - only stero - anyone confirm?
Strange about the SVHS though... I assumed the menus were standard. If you look for `TV & Video preferences` you should see an option for changing video output (tv output only offers RGB or comp. I agree). The video output just won`t change from `pal1`. ONdigital said that it depended on the region the STB was sold in, but they only use these boxes in pal regions don`t they?

That`s an odd one that, Norman. Perhaps the STBs are sold abroad as well, and serve other digital terrestrial suppliers in say France (SECAM) or Stateside (NTSC).
Still think it odd that there`s the option for S-Vid !
As for audio, you`re correct in saying there is no NICAM on these boxes, but you get MPEG2 (equivalent to say an SVCD) whereby you can get surround sound, but sadly only up to Dolby Pro Logic-standards (but not quite the real thing).
Having said that, some broadcasters sound better than others - BBC1/ITV dramas sound excellent, and Fight Club via On Request earlier in the year was the best I`ve heard from my little box of tricks.
