Hi Rob,

Yeah - they`re out there alright.

I particularly fancy the Apple Powerbook G3, which I believe to be fitted as standard with a DVD drive. (It has a very sexy transparent keyboard, but`s that`s how sad I have become....)

Have a look at it here http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/73/wo/Mw4AT0dcbhrw9u3WP01/0.3.0.3.26.19.2.1.3.1.1.0?79,72

(Nice URL eh?).

If Mac`s don`t float your boat then I know that Compaq and Toshiba both have offerings specced with DVD.

Take a look at the Compaq Armada (excellent tools - I`ve got a lower spec one) at http://www.compaq.com/products/portables/arm7800/
or the Tosh at http://computers.toshiba.com/tais/csd/garm/satellite.html

Hope this helps,

Ade.

Ah, I see..

Having re-read your message at a more normal pace, It may be that you`re after buying a DVD-ROM drive to go with your existing laptop, in which case ....erm...

No idea, but I`d think that any aftermarket device would have to be proprietary (expensive).

Am I still wrong?

Ade :-)

Not seen an external unit yet, but DVD Reviewer has just acquired a Toshiba Tecra 8000 with DVD. Looks region hackable but not dared to upgrade the drive firmware yet!!

Have you tried Simply Computers for an external unit? www.simply.co.uk

Surely your manufacturer can replace your existing CD Rom drive for an over inflated price.

However, what better way to waste money on fancy new toys such as the Sharp, Panasonic or Pioneer portable players, each costing in the region of £1000 - if you got that much money to burn :)

Have a look at http://www.datawise.co.uk
They have two external DVD drives I think (haven`t looked for any more than a few seconds I`m afraid) which use the PCMCIA slots.
