Page 1 of Auction Sites - STUPID!!!
General Forum
a couple of weeks ago i was introduced to the `world` of ebay and through these forums yahoo and qxl auctions too. after spending most time on ebay trying to buy dvds ive given up! this due to the rediculous prices people pay for the latest dvds. my most recent `loss` was when when i had made a bid for bedazzled. my maximum bid was a tenner but it ended up going for nearly £17 + p&p! i can get it brand new for less than that from dvdboxoffice or from play247.com, so why the hell do people pay `over the odds` for 2nd hand dvds??? i know that some discs are brand new and from companies with excessive stock, but i cant understand the 2nd hand ones going for stupid prices. you may think that people on ebay etc arent aware of e-tailers but to me it stands to reason that if youve got the internet and read film mags youre going to eventually `click` that you can but dvds online.
its all a mystery to me.....
I quite agree, there are some spectacularly stupid people out there, bidding over the odds for stuff that can be bought cheaper elsewhere. However, it is possible to save money on films, just stick with it. I`ve had some absolute bargains over the last 9 months on both DVDs and CDs, especially on more obscure films and also ones that have been out for a few months. Bidding on newer ones is a dead loss, as these are the ones people with more money than sense bid over the odds for.
I saw a 2nd hand R1 blair witch project go for £12 and if the buyer had ventured to www.futureent.com they would have found a new version for £6, scandelous!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use Yahoo a lot to buy and sell (done about 50 trades). People will buy any old tat on-line, I think they`re just bored at work (that`s why this forum is busy too!). Use it to sell all your old computer rubbish then buy more DVDs with the cash. I recently got £60 (£62.50 with postage) for a digital camera that costs £60 in Dixons with a guarantee and that! Reckon I`ve made 2 grand selling my old toys.
I agree there are far too many VCDs and DVDs for silly money, teach em a lesson by not buying them! Also too many yanks that think DVDs cost £30 over here.
There are bargains tho. I`ve bought 3 DVDs off Yahoo, never more than a tenner. Look for private sellers who are generally shifting DVDs they`re bored with and it`s worthwhile.
I use Yahoo too for buying DVD bargains but have to agree they don`t come along very often as there are too many dumb people who hike up the auctions and then they have a reserve price anyway so why bid for it !
What I have suggested to Yahoo countless times is to have a VCD section separate to the DVD section, since when have the two been the same format ! it just makes it a pain trying to search for genuine DVD`s !
RE: Auction Sites - STUPID!!!
Ebay is the best Auction site, especaily for Horror DVD`s / Videos. Quite recently I have just purchased Last House on the Left for £18, this is the french R2 uncut version (tell me where you can buy that movie in England?) Also the classic video of The Wizard of Gore for £10.
If you check them out on a regular basis you will see great movies, books and collectables (loads of stuff I have baught where on the classic series Twin Peaks) I admit that if you are looking for new releases you should look else where but quite frankly thats obvious anyway! Just check them out for all you genuine film and memrabillia collectors... you will not be disapointed!
Some People(Not Me) Dont know that sites such as DVDBO exists. They see what search engines show them which is sites like bol, amazon, Blackstar, dvdstreet etc. I myself before i came to this site to look for a hack(I found out about this from Total Film Magazine) for my player. You really have to dig deep and search for good sites/bargains and these people cant be bothered to do that. If its cheeper than high street, they`ll buy it. Plus most auctions accept debit cards and cheques as they are UK based
