Is the Terminator-Special Edition Cut?

Johnny Utah (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 18th March 2001, 18:16

Just saw it has a 15 certificate. I may not buy it now and just wait however long it takes for the Region 1.

Can anyone tell me how much has been cut? And is it worth waiting for an uncut version on region 1?

It does not appear to be cut, it seems to have a lower rating as a result of changes in BBFC policy. Here are two relevant links to the BBFC database for the original film :-

1984 classification :-

2001 classification :-

(the 2001 seems to be 10 seconds longer)

and for the video/DVD versions :-

1987 video:-

2000 video/DVD:-

Again it would appear to be about 20 seconds longer this time around. I`m assuming the different running times for the "home" versions are due to different frame rates used for home releases (often called "PAL speed-up").

My copy arrived this morning so watch out for my review. I have the original 1987 video too so I`ll look out for any differences.

Having a look in WHSmith`s this morning and the Special Edition DVD of The Terminator was placed next to the VHS version.
The really odd thing though is that the DVD version is certificate 15, while the VHS version is an 18.
I have no idea why this is.

since the region 4 version works without region hack, i can only assume that the manufacturers made both discs the same as they couldnt be bothered to make two different discs for uk and aus

I checked with the BBFC today - The DVD is of course widescreen and has recently been re-submitted for classification (Probably due to the extras that DVD has) Under their new guidelines, this film has been re-classified as a 15. The VHS copy is 4:3 and has not been re-submitted, therefore it has to carry the old 18 certification. If it had been re-submitted it would have also now carried a 15 rating.

I watched my R4 T1 SE last night, and certainly couldn`t see any cuts - I think it`s intact.
