David James (Man City), Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Ian Walker (Leicester); Gary Neville (Man United), Sol Campbell (Arsenal), Ashley Cole (Arsenal), John Terry (Chelsea), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), Phil Neville (Man United); Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Nicky Butt (Man United), David Beckham (Real Madrid), Paul Scholes (Man United), Kieron Dyer (Newcastle), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich); Wayne Rooney (Everton), Michael Owen (Liverpool), Emile Heskey (Liverpool), Darius Vassell (Aston Villa).

DeFoe should be in that squad not Darius Vassel!

Exactly what I said!! Vassell has been injured recently, whereas Defoe has been fit and scoring. Also, he`s a better player so it makes sense to include him. Actually, I think Defoe will make it in there anyway, as my suspicions are that Vassell won`t be fit in time being that its only a few weeks away.

Not to include Defoe outright is criminal really. Sven really has his favourites. Kieran Dyer?! FFS! Dyer by name......

i`d take Beattie over both of them personally.

Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent.
Forty percent of all people know that.

You`d take Beattie before Defoe, really? Beattie`s cack! :)

Defoe is the in form man at the moment and he`s ready IMO.

No Wes Brown, but Ledley King? that`s a surprise.

Wes Brown has only recently come back from injury, hence his exclusion. Sven said that himself on Football Focus on Saturday; not only that but Man Utds defence has been poor this season, considering how good they have been in the past. He probably isn`t playing on the greatest amount of confidence. :/

On the other hand, Ledley King was awesome in defence on his England debut, even scoring a goal. He`s been in midfield for Spurs all season, and since being put back in defence for the last few games he`s bolstered it up no end. He`s undoubtedly the right choice; the fact that he`s good enough to play in both defence and midfield is probably a key - and he can also play at left back. In other words, he`s a good utility player.

This team doesn`t really surprise me judging from the players usually picked. I think Defoe should have been a regular choice by now in the England team, he`s easily one of the best strikers. I even thought sven would have put Jenas in again (god help us). Bit confused how players such as heskey, dyer and vassell
get selected.

Not overly bothered - England don`t really get me as excited as supporting your local team.

As a Newcastle fan, I am confused as to why Kieron Dyer has been named in the squad. He runs, and runs, and er... that`s it!
