Question about debit card

My current debit card expires at the end of March. I have just been sent a new one (with a new number) which is valid from the start of April.

When should I start using my new card to buy things and update the details on online stores such Play? I know the obvious answer is "on the 1st April" but what if I use my card on the 31st March (when its still valid) but they don`t attempt to debit money until into April?

Is there an overlap period?

I`m on Lloyds TSB Visa BTW

In my experience, the places that have your details, ebay, play..........blah blah, will send you an email stating that the card they have on file for you is running out, & ask for an update. (that`s what happened to me anyway)
