Well,I dunno.
What I do know though, is that I bought one of them £15 ones from JVC (the ribbon cable type) and the quality jump from the Aiwa was incredible!!

I had ONE disc that showed as "grainy" all of a sudden and thought "oh-oh bet my players going the way that other guy complained about", but tried the lead and hoped.

It worked! It was the scart lead itself at fault, and the quality now is astounding :o) (and yeah, it`s gold plated)

I dont think the really expensive ones make that much difference. We sell a couple in store, and I can`t see anything that justified spending more than the JVC lead. At £15 it`s a bargain.

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!

I went from a bog standard Scart , to a gold conncetion , fully wired /shielded Scart and the difference was amazing.

And as the other chappy says , £15-20 should be enough to pay.

The QED Scart would be better , but at £50-60 for 0.5mtr it`s hard to justify then.

Hmm, I just bought an "oxygen-free", gold plated jobbie, but have gone back to S-video, and phono cables.

I saw no difference between the gold and the bog-standard SCART, both of which were inferior to S-video.

But then again, it does seem to be badly assembled and it`s going back to Maplin where I bought it (£15).

I purchased a scart lead which was one of those £50 things with 24k gold, non migration oxygen free flat cable etc, only because I got it at trade price of £9 and it did make a noticable difference. Just for the record, the standard looking gold plated oxygen free scart leads are 60 pence each at trade price, amazing to think people pay up to £20 for these.

Does that Ribboned SCART that Beyondhifi do give you a better picture than the normal style ones?

I agree that good quality leads do make a difference, make sure your scart has all pins wired, even some of the more expensive types skimp on this.
To offer a rule of thumb : as with hi-fi, look to spend 15% of your budget on leads, therefore a dvd player at £200 deserves a £15 scart and £15 digital co-ax or toslink for the sound.
Also remember the power lead! A small "pure-ac" filter and surge protector can be obtained for around £10.
...trade price of 60p for a gold plated, oxygen free scart lead - I wouldn`t mind a piece of that action! Obviously made in a country with minimum wages then!

Yes, gold plated jobbies are better than normal ones. I`ve got IXOS Scart cables at the back of mine. A little cheaper than QED at £40 approx. I think I picked one of mine up for about £35 which was good, however the other one I got for free!!!

Big hint, if you`re ever going to buy an expensive piece of A/V equipment, see if they won`t chuck anything in for free - so mine`s even better value than the 60p that someone got theirs for (however if they`re 60p trade price - I`m damn blastedly annoyed!!!)

Something that`s fully wired and properly shielded stops interference from each of the wires. If you`re watching VHS with one of these gold plated jobbies, then don`t bother! An RGB link to DVD via SCART however can offer a truly magnificent picture.
