I am about to buy the Logix DVD 3000 player and wondered if anyone else has one and how they find it`s performance, also can any one tell me if it is macrovision disabled?

Cheers .

Paul.

I have it and for a budget machine I find the performance outstanding.

As for macrovision being disabled this can be done via the mneu that pops up when you run the region hack for it

Do not buy one under any conditions, you will have problems with it I guarantee. I bought one several months ago and after countless problems, picture break-up, incompatible disks audio out of sync, etc. None of which Logix (LG) could help with as when you phone there premium rate number they basically tell you that there are no upgrades available or planned for the machine. I finally took it back for a refund and bought a scan 2000 for a few quid more, now I am happy. The scan is a very good player for the price and I would recommend it to anyone.

Oh by the way you could not disable macrovision on the logix 3000 I had, even when it said disabled on the menu.

Cheers,

I`m confused! In all the reviews I have read the Logix DVD 3000 is the same machine as the Scan SC 2000 and the Manhatten DVD 2000 can anyone confirm this for me?

It is the same machine as the Scan SC 2000.

The only disc that hasnt played properly on mine is Final Destination but then that wouldnt run on my friends scan either. All the other 50 discs ive used on it have worked fine (including gladitor that tripped many machines up)

And ther customer support was extreamly good (although they didnt have a fix for the problem other than when the menu transitions happen, which is what was screwing up, turn the machine off and then back on again which clears it up.) But then its not really their fault that certain DVD`s dont play but instead its the disk manufactuers who try to push the DVD format too far thus make disks incompatable ( Its a problem you can get on any DVD player)

Also they said that they will hopefully be releasing a new firmware for the machine to fix these problems.

And on the macrovision thing its working fine on mine whoch is running through my VCR due to lack of scart sockets

I got one, just after xmas. at first i was very happy with this player.
But one or two bugs in the firmware let it down and it couldnt be updated like the scan player. because of this it went back to the shop and i got a scan for an extra £25. as there are issues with a few new disks as they come out on a lot of players i realy would recomend spending that bit more on the scan.

Ok so thanks to everyone that has replied to my post.

But the one question I must ask, if this machine is the same player as the Scan but in a different case then how can the firmware be upgraded in the Scan and not the Logix? And why so many faults with the Logix and not the Scan?

The only reason I can think for these error are the firmware and this can be upgraded easily I am told.

Well if this machine is pants then I will have to suck it and see as it is on it`s way to me as we speak.

Thanks again to everyone and if anyone has anymore information then please share it with me.

Regards.

Paul

As far as I could tell the logix was a very early version of the scan i.e. before the machine was introduced to volatile memory. Therefore the only way to upgrade the machine would be to physically change the chips, however as the machine is old it`s no longer supported so no firmware upgrades will ever be possible.

Disks I had problems with:

Final Destination - large scale picture break-up and locking up.
Virgin Suicides - locking up.
Fight Club - blocking out of all black colours.
X-Men - blocking out of all black colours.
Every disk - if paused for more than 20min then try to play again the machine would lock up.

Also it had a habit of locking up when playing music and MP3 CD’s. Oh and every time you play any dvd the subtitles come on as default even if you disable them in the setup menu, only a little thing but you would be suprised how annoying it got.

All of these problems have not occurred on the scan player as the constant new arrival of firmware fixes any bugs as they crop up (not that I have felt the need to upgrade yet, still running v2.06.) Added to this is a very impressive MP3 player which is almost worth the money on it`s own.

By the way I am not deliberately trying to slag off other peoples players I am just passing on info exactly as I found it.

Cheers,

Old Scan = New Logix ( even the firmware reports it as a scan!)

And why so many faults with the Logix and not the Scan? (Faulty scans sold on?)

The only reason I can think for these error are the firmware and this can be upgraded easily I am told.
With the correct tools yes (they will cost about £250 for a blower. And with the firmware (old scans used a diffrent video gen chip). if you use the wrong firmware then you get no tv output.

Well if this machine is pants then I will have to suck it and see as it is on it`s way to me as we speak.

Get some disks you know to be a problem with the scan players (like the 3rd disk in the toystory box set) if it dont play them send it back and get a scan.

Thanks again to everyone and if anyone has anymore information then please share it with me.

Your more than welcome
