RE: Help with buying a dvd player
There are quite a few multi region, straight from the manufactor player sold at richer sounds.
It all depends on what yoou need it for.
The philips dvd710 can read cdr and cdrw as well as dvds.
The toshiba 2109 is a better player and cost more than the philips at 269 pounds, but can`t play cdr and cdrw.
I would go for the philips dvd player. It only cost about 200 pounds and has great picture and sound. I have the philips dvd711, but it is region 2, as I bought it from a catalogue and could not afford to buy one straight out.
It sucks being umempliyed.
RE: Help with buying a dvd player
Some suggestions are :
Toshiba 2109 or 3109
Pioneer 626
Both are good but need chipped to be multi-region (that costs about 50 to 70 quid)
Or go for as cheaper one like a wharfedale or Samsung 709 that are multi-region hackable from the remote control.

RE: Help with buying a dvd player
Maybe a Samsung 709 if you can get one, MultiRegion and MacroFree also outputs NTSC DVD`s as True Pal so you can use it on just about any TV. You can get one for £150 -> if you shop around.
Failing that you may be able to get a Phillips player or a lower end Panasonic or Pioneer like the A160 or 525 and then get them chipped (and macrofree) for around £250 ->
