DVD collecting - Whats the point?
So why do we do it then. I've got well over 100, which still seems to make me a bit of an amateur in this company.
I'm genuinely interested, is it:
An obsession with material goods
A fetish for collecting things (do you get a warm cozy feeling inside whenever you walk past your nicely shelved alphebetised collection)
Only slightly more expensive than two people going to the cinema anyway, so with extras it's actually a better deal if you don't mind waiting a few months
Or do you surround yourself with dvds as a substitute for real friends.
Do you get a thrill when a dvd lands on the mat before it has even been released?
How many of you are so keen on a bargain that you buy dvds that you don't really want that much just because they're cheap?
Well that's most of my reasons covered, how about you. :)

Well George,
You hit the nail on the head with those. Guilty of all the above ;)
RE: DVD collecting - Whats the point?
Yup...not sure I can add any to that list either.
:/

It`s human nature to collect things. We like to surround ourselves with things that make us feel better and that give us pleasure, in our case that happens to be films/tv shows.

Naaa. Only collect DVDs and CDs, haven`t ever been a collecter of objects that don`t give pleasure other than the thrill of collecting.

Although...yes I do. Recently bought some large shelves from Ikea and my collection fits in quite smugly...almost.

Absolutely. I don`t tend to go to the cinema too much these days, once every couple of months perhaps. The multiplex near me is infested with annoying little brats that scream and giggle through the whole film, so I tend to only sneak in to early shows at the weekend.

Naaaaaaaaaa. When you`ve got over 400 titles and friends with DVD players are welcome to borrow them, I think friends are pretty grateful to have a DVD freak as a friend. :)

OK, but do they love you for your personality, or just love you for your dvds

RE: DVD collecting - Whats the point?
The reason I collect dvds is because I love movies.
The reason I collect dvds now, than VHS, is not because of the high picture and sound quality, but because they also have special features which often have featurettes, documetarys, commentaries, original trailers etc, and also little known facts about the films.

They love me because I`ll beat them up if they don`t. ;)
