That Rick Stein has got a lot to answer to...

...I`ve just had a week away in Cornwall, great weather, great beaches (saw a couple of Basking Sharks during a boat trip - nice), but the prices!!!

I had to pay £2.62 for a pint of Guinness in Padstow, having worked in Chelsea and Camden it didn`t come as too bad a shock but come on - in Cornwall!!!

I smell something fishy! (Glad we got that out the way yeah). I`ve been to Padstow, few years ago but can`t remember doing a George Best(know what I`m saying).
Wouldn`t have minded visiting Rick`s restaurant there but sounds like I`d have been well out of pocket if the price of ale is anything to go by.

The various Stein establishments in Padstow do cost money, but if you really like good food they are worth it. We visited in May and had a fabulous lunch. You need to book quite far in advance for dinner.

Cornwall used to be one of the poorest parts of England. It may not look it - ie few areas of industrial dereliction like in say Widnes in Lancs - but with an economy reliant on tourism it was hardly booming.
Now with such as Stein pushing up prices in the local economy of Padstow (A place I avoid when I`m down there partly for that reason), house prices in general rocketing, it looks more prosperous - but how much of that I wonder is benefitting the locals?
One of the furthest outposts of England.
