Page 1 of New Credit Card Question
General Forum
Hi Folks
I was wondering if some of you could give me some advice about a new credit card for me.
I`ve currently got a Natwest VISA card that I use pretty regularly, and i`m in the fortunate position of being able to pay the balance off each month. I didn`t really consider other companies credit cards when I opened mine and so now I think there`s probably a better deal out there for me.
The one thing i`d like from the new card is some sort of cashback/reward function, I think i`m right in saying that there`s an Alliance and Leicester card that offers this, anybody got one? are there others that offer the same sort of thing?
Interest rates aren`t too important, but 0% for x months would be a bonus I guess.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Will.
RE: New Credit Card Question
Get your new card befor you cancel your other.
All the best,
The 42%er.
Try Cahoot @ 10% or IF for a very good 8% APR! Couldnt tell you if thay have any reward scheme`s, would suggest Egg but thay have gone from 9% APR to 13.2%, unhappy customer!
The Shi*house poet needs a good thrashing, Grafitti ISNT cool.... kiddies!
Hi Will,
I`ve got the Alliance & Leicester "Cashback" credit card and you get 1% back on all purchases plus double cashback when you use selected companies.
Both Cahoot and Egg do Cashback, although I`m pretty sure it`s only 0.5%. Cahoot pay it in February, Egg in September. Egg does a 6 month interest free period, Cahoot did when I got my card a couple of years ago, but not sure now.
One thing that annoys me about Cahoot is that you can`t make a one-off payment by debit card, only fixed amount, minimum payment of full amount by direct debit. Not so good if you want to either free up space on the card, or if you`re a bit more flush than you thought you might be and want to wipe a bit. Having said that they`re quite generous with the credit limit, and I tend to use it just for my work expenses to keep them separate so it`s cleared every month anyway.
Marbles are also doing a 6 month interest free period, but don`t think they do cashback.
Egg also does car and house insurance, and you get 10% discount for being a cardholder. The prices are very decent. We`ve just moved our house insurance there and what we liked was that they don`t count TVs and computers as `high value items`. (As a complete aside check your policies - our previous company counted any computer as "business equipment" and put a 10% total contents limit on what they`d pay - which meant we were under-insured).
Egg were also good last year when I paid for my new car with the card. I just phoned them up beforehand and said that I was going to put a high value transaction and not to decline it. Garage just phoned up for authorisation and it sailed through. Got a nice bit of cashback last September ;-) Mind you, wish I`d known about the 1% with A & L

From the information on their website it looks like Alliance & Leicester now offer only 0.5% cashback - and 1% if you use the card at 9 selected companies.
Thanks for all the advice guys.
I`ve taken all the advice in and I decided to apply for (and was successful in getting) an egg card. The reason was that it offered everything I wanted, cashback, 0% for 6 months and a decent APR.
Alliance and Leicester was dicarded because of the relatively high APR compared to the egg. I know they offer 1% cashback on selected stores but the fact is I don`t buy anything from those stores, so it would just equate to the 0.5% offered by the egg card
I though Cahoot sounded a bit inflexible with payment options, I know they have the best APR but as I pay the balance off it`s not that important to me.
Thanks again for all the assistance, it really is most appreciated.
Will.
