Legal use of Cannabis

kywy (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 20th February 2003, 17:32

There have been some reports recently about legalising cannabis for medical use for certain chronic medical conditions, including MS and cancer.
I have some friends with advanced MS who are otherwise very law abiding citizens, who currently take the herbal version in chocolate cakes because it`s the only thing that alleviates their pain, particularly at night, .
Given that its medical benefits are so well known it almost appears that the goverment wants to decriminalize the drug completely before giving it to the people who`s quality of life could be so improved by it
The fact that I would probably be entitled to it does not change my frustration when I see good friends worried because they are never sure of supply and feeling guilty because they are technically criminals.
It`s surely time to cut out the prevarication by the powers that be and get this moving.
What do you think ?

As far as I`m concerned, any move to take the supply of cannabis out of the hands of the criminal fraternity can only be a good thing.

Should`ve happened a long time ago!

Charging people for posession of cannabis (especially if they`re using it for pain relief, which it is very good for) is nothing short of idiotic!

And before anyone brings up the old "But it leads to harder things and if you legalise it....blah, blah, blah"

Boll*cks!

Cannabis is no more addictive or harmful than alcohol or nicotine.

Yet people who use it are still "criminals".

Never mind decriminalising ilegal drugs, what about the doctors removing legal drugs from the general public which were available on prescription, without the publics consultation.

They become an outlawed drug, no longer prescribed, which I assume to doctors is worse than illegal drugs!!!!!, a replacement drug is given but not as effective, to help the medical problem..

So we now have reached the daft situation where we can go to the nearest big town and buy Cannabis, heroin and cocane but cannot get our previously prescribed drugs and have to make do with these cheaper less effective drugs.

Crazy situation!!!

I`d say as long as it done in a measured way. My mum has MS so if it`d help her then great. It might even help reduce crime rates but i`m no expert.

ColinMac,
I agree totally, I take eleven different drugs plus insulin injections every day and any time they have switched a drug I`ve been using to it`s generic form to save a little money, I have always felt worse, sometimes a lot worse.
No it`s your imagination, the doctors tell me,somewhat shamefaced, but it`s not.
I believe the phrase is " going to hell in a handcart "

Ventolin is effective as a reliver but not good for the heart especially in tablet form, I now use Serevent which was prescribed at 4 puffs a day but I am finding 1 puff in the morning to be effective, used with Flixotide as a flem preventer and occasional use of Ventolin inhaler, always insist on the brand name.Perhaps you should continue your investigation on an asthma forum, let me know if you find one.

Is it just me or are the CFC free and easybreath inhalers just not as good?

All the best,
